Oh How I love standing around on a Golf Course..

The front 9 at Camberley on Monday seemed very slow with lots of hanging around but it was a forum day and to be expected with the numbers playing. Hard to get any tempo going but hey the sun was out so why rush.

If I was in Frag and Imurgs position I'd focus on the fact the 3.5 hours is still good going. If its slow, switch off between shots and have a laugh, chill, or anything to take your mind of it. If you know you won't get through why get het up and stressed by it

Homer just because it was Forum day and large numbers why should it be slow its no different from any other game to be honest.
I was always taught to be ready to play when its your turn and don't hang about.

an interesting thread on slow issues (for a change) - one of the issues I perceive (from observing) is that the normal reaction, especially of low handicappers, is to take a lot lot more time around the green so that they are not held up significantly on the following tee. Generally they will have to wait a relatiively large part of any delay on the tee, but from there they will not normally have a wait from the fairway - except on par 5's.

the problem with this approach is that it tends to simply extend the round time rather than solving it because no one feels pressured and they slow down too.

the only practical answer is control of the groups teeing off, and some sort of pace of play penalty - but the reality is that only the first is ever going to happen at club level, although committees are responding to complaints about the actions of specific members/groups (from my experience) = if yours aren't then ask them why?

Played a singles KO on wednesday. Terrible start and almost got it back until we got caught behind a four ball ( three in their 30-40's one senior ). Waiting, waiting, waiting.
Talk about hacking, it was laughable, until that is they all got on the green. Ah, now the proper golf begins:it was if they were playing the open and their lives depended on it. hey ho my rhythm was gone so was my golf.
Who teaches golfers to take three or four measured practice swings then address the ball, look at the target do the same thing twice more and then swing, bash and top the object of their desire 50 yards. it was so pathetic all I could do was laugh.
Anyway I lost to a better player so can't complain.

The problem was that it was a 9 hole round in the morning and we went from the 3rd to the 13th and there were groups of members playing their rounds that we ran into the back off which just meant there were several groups all converging on the 13th tee at the same time and there wasn't really anywhere for anyone to go anywhere from there until the end. It wasn't an issue and one of those things. More an observation really
