Struggled off the tee in the last couple of months. Missed too many green too but at least the putting hasn't been bad. Twigged on Saturday that I had let the ball creep too far back in my stance. Turned out yesterday and was hitting the ball miles, and splitting the fairway. GIR was well up too. Scooped the money in our Sunday fiddle. A stunning score in difficult conditions.

But now the problem. Thoroughly enjoyed the company but I sat with the guys thinking I didn't enjoy the golf at all.

What do you do when the buzz isn't there...

What gives you the buzz your looking for? Learning, Scoring, Winning?

Its a hard one to comment on as I am on a golf high... This year I have played less cos of the little one so when I play the buzz is there, I am also moving back to playing to my handicap and maybe a little better. I am scared that the light is going and practice will be less. Time to get an outside light for my practice aria.

Are you playing the same course all the time?

Played all over the place this summmer, and enjoyed the courses from a point of view of seeing something different.

Are you playing with the same people all the time?

Mmm, there maybe something in this. Up until a few seasons back I'd always put my name in any slot going. Joined an 18 man fiddle and enjoy their company but there's something missing from the golf - wonder if I need to go back to playing with someone different every week... maybe that makes me focus more on my golf.

Hobbit, has your club got an A / B Team that you can join? I've been feeling a bit fed up with things recently (mainly due to not scoring well) but I got the buzz back this weekend playing an away match. Admittedly it was pairs matchplay so not too much pressure but playing a new course with cracking company made me realise why I love this game. Great banter from the off, some great golf, and the company ensured a perfect afternoon. I think it's easy to fall into the routine of playing your home course with the same people. I've certainly been guilty of that in the past.

Used to play in the inter club league matches, both scratch and handicap. Loved 'em to bits but just haven't bothered for a few seasons. Haven't entered the knockouts the last two seasons either... think I need to go back to playing the sort of golf I used to play.

The small group of guys I play with are great, and I'm lucky to play with 2 or 3 of the same group of 6 each week, AND we're all family so it's all good, however, we are all looking at clubs to join to spice up company and competition. Sometimes the same people week in week out can become a bore, not anyone's fault just run out of things to chat about after a while...!

I get the best of all worlds. We have a regular Saturday swindle which is fun to play in but all the comps are drawn so we get random people to play with. There is a different swindle on a Sunday if there is no comp on so I don't have a problem playing with the same faces.

I don't get bored with the course as I'm always trying to shoot as low as I can and to be fair it is quite a challenging layout so driving is a premium and scoring well on the par 3's is an essential.
