Hi all,

I am currently not a member of a golf club as I am struggling to find a club in my area that ticks all my boxes!

My official handicap is due to lapse into inactive in September.

Does anyone know what options I have to keep my handicap active whilst I search for my new club which will now probably be in the new year as I am not going to rush into a new club as it has to be the right one for me this time?

Why do you think it will be inactive by September? Thought it would become inactive at the end of the year.

However if it did become inactive and you joined a new club and showed your 'expired handicap cert' they may ask you to put 3 card in or if you played in 3 Comps it would become active again.

You could also put in Supplementary scores

Your problem is not that your handicap could become inactive. As you are not a member of a club, you do not have an official handicap.
As pointed out, when you do join a club again, your handicap will be re-instated if less than 6 months have elapsed since you left your previous club. If it's over 6 months, you should be asked to submit a minimum of 3 cards and your previous handicap history will be taken into account.

At my last club the membership ended on March 31st this year but my last comp I played in was October last year ( 2010 ) and as the season ends in October of each year there were no comps to play in this year before my membership ended.

As you have to submit 3 comp cards in any 12 month period for your handicap to remain active my handicap will go inactive in September when 12 months ago was the date of my 3rd from last official comp if you understand what in mean.

I understand the bit about putting in 3 cards when I join a new club if my handicap goes inactive but as I explained before I wish to keep my handicap active if possible whilst still looking for a new club at which time I do not know when this will be :)

The active/inactive handicaps system is based on the calendar year. If you played a minimum of 3 qualifiers in 2010, your handicap will still be active - provided you join another club within 6 months of leaving your previous club.
However, as I pointed out in my previous post, you no longer have an official handicap - active or inactive - as you are not a club member.

Thanks for that info guys.

I guess now if I do not find a new club before October 1st then when I join a new club I will have to put in 3 new cards.

Just wondered if there was any way I could keep it the handicap active so when I join a new club I can be up and running in the comps from the word go.

As I have been playing lots of golf at various courses this year and I must admit after 20 years of club golf comps week in and week out it is a breathe off fresh air just to go along to various clubs and play chill out golf in different surroundings each week.

The search continues :)
