Anybody use one or has used one for any length of time....

Its probably one of the most iconic putters of all timw outside of the Ping Anser...
I picked a spotlessly clean one up 3 weeks ago for 10 euro's with my own half mallet seve icon...

I started playing with a TM Itsy Bitsy and loved it but parted with ita few years ago...
Mallets tend to suit my stroke thats what drew me to the 2 Ball...

My trouble with it is distance control on long putts....
Does anyone have this issue...
And before someone says hit it harder i dont mean it in that way :( ;)...

Its absolutely lethal from 8 ft and in for me....I would consider my putting the strongest part of my game and lag putting is part of that..

Maybe its just the honeymoon phase with it but it feels like i need to give it a good wallop to get the ball moving.
 
Had exactly the same issue with a sabretooth, personally found the problem the insert, when you hit it soft it has a dull feel, but on longer putts it starts to feel springy, making distance control almost impossible, have gone back to a milled face Scotty again because of it
 
I use one and I like it a lot.

I've putted brilliantly with it and also had my fair share of mares with it, but at the end of the day thats me not the putter.

Every time someone has a hit with it on the putting green they complain that they can't get it near the hole without the issues you're mentioning.

I'd say the weight of my putts is becoming one of the less bad parts of my game now so if you're dangerous from 8 feet it might be worth sticking with for a bit longer.
 
had mine for a little while now and can judge distance a lot better now, took a good 6 weeks to get used to it, and it is a work in progress, but stick with it imo

Id never ditch a putter that quick Neil...
the last 2 i had were as i said the TM and the Seve Icon....Both of those had steel faces so i guess its just the honeymoon phase with the 2 ball....

The things i love about it though as i said is its ability to give you confidence from short range...

3 footers.... its just a case of points the 2 balls at the holes and just rap it in...Its the first putter iv had that im not shaky with on short putts...

I guess the distance control will come in time.
 
had one to start with and really stuggled with it borrowed someone elses standard style putter and just found much more feel to it so flogged the odyssey on ebay for £70 and bought a cheap wilson putter that has performed well for me since averaging 5 or 6 putts less per round and rarely leave it more than a couple feet from the hole
 
Had a black faced dfx, was really solid with it. Gave a great roll, easy to judge distance, forgiving, all you could ask for.

Ugly as sin though, so it went.
 
I had exactly the same experience as Fundy,with my centre shafted 2 ball.I hardly missed a putt inside 6 feet,but found long putts almost impossible to judge,because of the springy feeling.
I spent 3 years swapping between the 2 ball and the Red X,but eventually ditched the 2 ball for the Red X.Its not as good at sinking short putts as the 2 ball,but its more consistent overall,and the feel is the same on all putts.
 
When reading up before buying mine, the long putt distance control issue seemed to come up a lot.

I've had it a coupla months now, and had a half hour lesson just after getting it. I must say i surprise myself at how well it seems to work, 3 putts are rare now, and (almost) always my fault. :D

I don't know if they all do, but mine came with 2 heavier weights that can be swapped out. I don't know if that would help?

I first bought one of the old two ball putters many years ago and find the 'two ball' helps so much with alignment. I treated myself to one of the back series Xi two ball putters about 9 months ago. My distance control with the longer puts is shocking, but I've put that down to my technique (or lack of it). In the second round of a two day comp over this weekend I managed somehow to three putt on 4 of the first 5 holes (and it didn't stop there)
I'm going to put a lot of practice into my putting, but it's interesting to read the comments of others on this thread. Maybe I should also consider trying a putter change. It's definately the club which is determining whether I have a good round or a bad one.
One thing that doesn't help at my particular golf club is the practice putting green, although not fast, is of a reasonable speed. You then go onto the greens on the course and they always put so much slower. Anyone else have this problem?
 
I've never had a putter with an insert before.
Ping Anser and a Yes Callie is all I've had in the last 18 years.
I find that distance control is all down to the length of the backswing and whatever you use, you can get used to it.

The problems arise when you play lots of different speed greens in league matches/ away days/nomad golf.

I use a two ball lined White ice and my putting has seen an instant improvement. Dabbled with a few different types of putter but with the others I struggled with consistency. For me the two ball is perfectly weighted, rarely miss a Pitt under six foot now and usually no more than two putt on long ones.
