Does anybody have any further input on this? Especially folk in older properties with more limited insulation values, who are using radiators rather than under-floor heating.... any suggestions/experiences are welcome.
That’s one of the lowest octopus figures I have seen, especially with the radiator replacements. My daughter recently had Octopus install a heat pump. Her house is a 1930s semi.
Octopus replaced all the radiators (but the pipework was ok). The new radiators (higher BTU output) are physically smaller than the ones they replaced!
Also had to install a hot water tank, as it was replacing a combi boiler. Total cost after government grant was about £3.5k. She is perfectly happy with the system.
I haven't seen it yet, so don't know what it looks like. That’s one of the lowest octopus figures I have seen, especially with the radiator replacements.
Did she get the purple trash can, or a generic looking whitish greyish box as a pump?
Yes @cliveb, that is indeed a remarkable figure..... so much so that I've been talking to them today & they even mentioned some of my small-bore pipe work being replaced as part of the install. I was very impressed by how thoroughly they questioned me about the house & system prior to me even booking a survey, which I have now done .At £200 a touch less than most other companies. A most impressive company, the like of which we seem to have few of in the UK....... though I'd add that I rarely engage with many. I'll report back!!My daughter recently had Octopus install a heat pump. Her house is a 1930s semi.

After having my tumble dryer go bang with black smoke coming out of it no way would I put one on overnight. Fire brigade said the same!Got an email from Octopus that they are changing the Intelligent tarrif. Previously it was as simple as Day rate and an off peak rate between 11:30-5:30. Now i need a phd to understand the change. Usually Octopus does a good job, so i am assuming that they will make the tariff better. All i wanted to know was - can i put my tumble dryer on overnight even if i dont plug in the EV?
There has been alot of panic and moaning on socials around the so called changes, however the T&Cs are not changing and the vast majority won't be affected by them. So if you are not asking for more than 6 hours of charge in a 24 hour period, then nothing changes. So yes you will still get off peak electricity every night between 11:30 & 5:30 regardless of whether your EV is plugged or not.Got an email from Octopus that they are changing the Intelligent tarrif. I must admit that email took a bit of interpretation but made sense when I finally worked it out.
I had always understood that with Intelligent Go the car can charge at any time there is low demand on the grid and not just between 11.30 and 5.30.
One of the things I have worked out (if necessary) is to start a charge on one day and stop/pause it before the end of the day and restart very late in the evening so each charging session is treated as a separate day.
One of the things it that did concern me was the advice to top up charge up the car every day when the advice I have been going on ever since having an EV is to let it drop to to 20% charge then recharge.
