Good article indeed - as the mystery unfolded of this lost course it must have been pretty exciting for the guy.
re getting there flying would be the only way to go unless you have a week off and have time to take take 6hr ferry rides etc.
JezzE had a good article in the mag last winter about golf in the hebrides, can't remember if he played Askernish.
FlyBe will do you a return flight from Glasgow to Benbecula from around £130, flight takes about an hour. Would make a good lads weekend away I'd imagine.

Birdieman is right. I did a broader piece on golf in The Hebrides in our January 2009 issue which included a follow-up visit to Askernish after my initial trip which was featured in our February 2008 issue.
A wonderful place and a fascinating story, although it is important for any intending visitor to set aside any expectations of 21st century-standard putting surfaces. The greens here are still much more how they would have been in golf's formative years.
