On my round today I NR on one hole, it was a strokeplay comp. I hit a tee shot, expected to find it but could not. We looked for 5 minutes, it should have been on the fairway or the edge of it. Anyway, there were people waiting to tee off, it was blowing a gale, I did not want to go back to the tee as it had been a good tee shot for a change and it was a long way back. Hey ho.

I marked the card accordingly, obviously out of the comp. I was under the impression that the rest of the card would still count for h/c purposes , the NR go down in effect as a double bogey. I wanted to check that with the h/c sec as I played with two juniors who did the same at different parts of the course and I wanted to check on their behalf. He has come back and said it will result in an automatic + 0.1. Is that right?

Its not a automatic .1 - for HC purposes the Stableford points is worked out so you can NR on the first in a medal and then get 41 Stableford points for the rest and you would get a HC adjustment

No, handicap adjustments are based around your stapleford score. So you can blob on a hole & you may still get a handicap reduction. I lost 2 balls down the first last weekend so never played out the hole but finished the round within my buffer zone, so no 0.1 back.

It's not an automatic +0.1. Any NR hole will be scored as a nett double bogey and you will go up, buffer or go down depending on your total score just the same as if you had completed the hole.

I follow the rules section and thought this had come up before. Now, how to say this again without offending the h/c sec.

Thanks for confirming this.

I emailed him afterwards. I wasn't sure what to mark on the card so I put a line through the box on that hole and put an asterisk next to it. I then added my score and again asterisk it. I've never nr a hole in strokeplay before.

Entering the score in the computer is fine but I wasn't sure how to mark the card so I contacted him to clarify what I had done and why. If I am penalised for incorrectly filling out this card that is fine but I wanted to know for next time. When he replied with the automatic +0.1 I wanted to check on here.

At the moment the +0.1 is about the nr on one hole, not about any error I may have made in completing my card.

If it goes through a HC software system then it's automatic and that will do any Stableford adjustments. Just count how many points you would have got if it was a Stableford

I should add the h/c sec or comp sec was not around, we have no pro. He may or may not be playing in the comp but I know he picks the cards up in the evening and checks them against the computer entries. I wanted to inform him in advance so he did not think I was trying to pull a fast one.

Is it possible that he may have got the wrong idea and thought you had stopped marking down your scores after the NR?

Possibly Bob. I'll be seeing him at a meeting tomorrow so I'm sure we can clarify this then. He is a good bloke, doing a job that others don't want so any discussion we have will be worded carefully so that he is not put out. Hopefully he has just misunderstood my question rather than interpreting this incorrectly.

What did you actually enter into the computer system for the score on the hole?
Dis you enter NR anywhere?

You should have a DQ from the comp result but your score should have been credited with a net double bogey on that hole for handicap purposes.

The sec got back to me this morning. There was a slight misunderstanding and it is exactly how people have said on here. The cards are still used for h/c purposes, net double bogey on the NR hole.

Thanks for clearing this up.
