Notre dame

It was a fantastic building and a tragedy but at the end of the day (IMO) that's what it is - a building.

I confess to feeling that some of the huge donations strike me a somewhat obscene. While I would defend someone's right to spend their money how they want it just worries me that £200m from one person and £100m from another plus £100m from Total could be used to change the lives and futures of so many others. (e.g. the Bill Gates Foundation comes to mind).

I wait to see how much the 'Church' coughs up or will hypocrisy continue to rule.

I'd like to think that these people already contribute sizeable amounts to other charities.

Priceless buildings like this do not have insurance.
Neither do any UK civil service or government buildings as the public purse would pay to repair them if they chose to do so.

I totally disagree with this. The outpouring over Grenfell was huge. The mention of the name Grenfell, only one word, sends a shudder through people. What is missing that deserves the quote?

Support and money

No one has been charged over it yet

Within 24 hours a french billionaire has donated enough to cover the rebuild , if only everyone gave a .. all the time. World peace would be a breeze

Macron, we will rebuild it, and it will be better than the original, in 5 years.

Experts, this could take decades.

Hmm. Someone is wrong on this one.

Fair point 👍. I was thinking from a national outpouring position. The local council response at the time was also poor which I had forgotten but your post reminded me.

Apologies, only they do! :) I had a client that specialised in exactly that, based in Gloucester!

Edit: Went away and did some checking. Press have been reporting that the companies doing the restoration work have insurance for their liability. The building itself not specficially insured (wonder if that is a French thing?) I guess the search for cause will be of interest to those insurers!
