Following on from Poker's BMW thread
some numpty took out my wing mirror the other day on my Kia, Ceed Sportwagon

It needs a service so ive booked it in and asked them to replace the Wing Mirror at the same time

They phoned me today to advise that the cost of the unit itself is well over £300 plus £80 to colour spray it, plus £47 fitting charge plus VAT
the whole thing comes to well over £500 for a wing mirror, the whole car only cost £15k brand new.

Had to get one changed in my old Citroen Picasso and that was only just over £100

Slightly fuming as they have me over a barrel GRRRRR

There's so much in a mirror these days..
Motor, demister, indicator and down - light on my Fiesta as well as the glass....
All you actually need is the glass, the rest is laziness....

It can be expensive if it is a motorised mirror...
Some years ago, had parked the merc in the golf course. No idea how it happened, but it looked like a golf ball stuck the mirror (and nothing else!!). Smashed the actual mirror but no damage to the wing itself. Went down to the local repair fellow who said that the whole thing was stupid expensive, but u can get a simple mirror off fleabay and stick it in for £100.

We looked at getting the Sorrento for towing, that is until we we warned off by a mechanic friend. Parts are ridiculous.

I knocked one of Mrs V's car on the way to see her in the hospital after she gave birth (mind was elsewhere obviously).

Renault garage wanted £500. I ordered the part from a company called Wingmirrorman (can recommend them), then got my local garage to fit and spray. Cost me £200 in all.

I used to sell aftermarket ones and they weren't that expensive, but it was a few years ago.

Got myself a heated motorised one for about £30/£40, sprayed it myself for about £15, 3 bolts a few spade terminals and jobs a good un.

Wow. I got a new passenger door mirror (Volvo S80) and I think it was £85 for the part through a mate (who owns a garage).....and I thought that was steep! That said, all original parts are just massively over priced and always have been tbh.

Back in the day, I had a Ford Sierra ghia. I smacked the electric wing mirror off it on a Matt black gate post. I went to Ford, and it was about £35 for a new one. Cheap!
3 months later, in an episode of total stupidity I did it again. Back to Ford.

£200.

Inflation, or realising what they could charge?
