Not crazy at all.
Agronomists agree that early maintainence ,such as tining and dressing ,while greeens are still growing leads to faster recovery and less aggravation to us golfers.

And it's quite likely that it's School Holidays too (st least during the recovery period) so quite likely a quieter period of the season too!

And I know, being one, that Seniors play all year round! That just means they/we will moan for a shorter time and be heard by fewer other members/visitors!

Mind you, it would be worthwhile to defer the serious 'damage' until after Monthly Medals, or at least co-ordinate the Medal/maintenance!

Oh dear - I've not mentioned how brill the weather has been down south this summer - and it's a beautiful sunny 25deg today - and how the courses are in great condition - but I'm heading up to Glasgow tomorrow for a week. Maybe I'll bring the good weather with me. Unfortunately the weather is the main reason my (Derbyshire) wife is very reluctant to move to Scotland - and though I try and tell her it's not that bad she doesn't believe me - and from the West of Scotland golfing perspective I'm not feeling too enthused myself given what I'm reading here...

We have had a couple of closed days this "summer" too (southside of Glasgow) and to be expected too being a parkland course suffering from ongoing torrential weather. I'd rather the greenkeepers were patient and only put machinery on the ground when it can take it. Nothing worse than trying to cut a green then wrecking it for the rest of the season.
This weekend's weather looks promising so cant wait to get back out there as I'm starting to trawl the FS section in here and Fleabay for kit I do not need.

Paul77 - my advice is to organise a wee day down Ayrshire way with some mates. Play the council courses in Troon, they will be in good nick and it may help you get your mojo back whilst CG dries out.

Thats how my club arranges maintenance week, non qualifier this Saturday, 4BB.
Following Saturday it is Pro's Day,a fun for all day.
Pretty certain our greens tomorrow will play very well and by the next Saturday next you will hardly noticed the work has been done.
Reading this thread has made me realise how fortunate I am to get 12 months a year golf with no winter greens etc.

I play at course not too far from you and even today we have very wet areas and the greens are bumpy now they have dried out a bit.
some courses are worse than others no doubt.

We do a reciprocal scheme where u can play other courses in area for £6 or £7. You could try some others near you and compare - for example did hear that Balmore was shut earlier in the week. To be honest mine should really have been shut too.

Conditions are as bad now as they were in the Winter...christ knows what state the course will be in then.

Having been at a course that was on its way out I knwo what you mean when you say you are not enjoying it. The desire to play is just not there!

At least your course will come back, mine is now back to nature as far as I know.

You have two options:

1) Write to your Club Committee or Manager (if you have one) and complain about the condition of the course, Threaten to leave if it isn't improved.

2) Just quietly cancel your membership and join a club with a better maintained course.

In the long run the first option is probably the better one, because poorly maintained courses tend to lose members and eventually go bankrupt and close, which is in nobody's interest!

I agree although threatening to leave initially is always a bit high handed. Ask what has caused the problem (broken equipment, lacl of staff, disease, etc) and how they plan to improve things and by when. If things don't get better and they don't make efforts to do anything then you've a choice to make. It is your money and you play for enjoyment and so if you aren't getting value for money aren't having fun and the club aren't interested why stay?

Thanks guys. I played again nine holes tonight and shot +5 and managed two birdies. The course was a lot better tonight and I spoke to another member who said it's totally unusual for it to be this way.

my mate said I should be lucky I never need to book a tee off time and can walk on any time I like and play.

Tonight i I just gave myself a shake and stopped acting like a spoilt brat. I'm paying £40 a month to play anytime I want on a quiet course.
