Beginning of July I will be collecting a couple of guys from Manchester airport around lunch time and heading up to Ayrshire, we plan to play somewhere in the afternoon en route. Then carry on up to Ayrshire in the evening.

We'll then play somewhere local to Ayr the following morning before meeing up with the rest of the guys for the first competition round at Glasgow Gailes in the evening.

Ideally could do with somewhere around 3 hours or so drive from Manchester, for a late afternoon tee.

How far's Morecambe Golf Club from Manchester? GREAT golf course!!! I'd really recommend it.

Carlisle is good track close to The Motorway about 2 hours drive. Silloth is better but a bit of a detour but well worth the drive.

Depending which way you are going either M74 or via Dumfries. If vya Dumfries Powfoot is good and Dumfries and County. Southerness is class but probably too far out of your way.

Morecambe is 1.5 hours. If you are considering Morecambe Lancaster is a far superior track and closer to The Motorway
Having not played Lancaster I can't comment, but would love to know what makes it "far superior"?

If your looking for a course local to Ayr on the Saturday try Dundonald Links - a decent track which shouldn't break the bank and only a stones throw away from Glasgow Gailes. There are obviously a multitude of courses in the area, however there will be Saturday competitions on for the members so getting on could be quite difficult. Dundonald Links is more set up for visitors than the other local courses. If money is no option try Western Gailes - again very close to Glasgow Gailes and a supberb course (pricey i'd imagine though)

There are excellent municiple courses (Ayr Belleisle, Troon Darley and Lochgreen) less expensive but busy at the weekends - they do have allocated visitor times so maybe give them a phone and see whats available.

We are playing a Ryder cup format over 3 days Sweden vs The Rest of the World lol.

Playing Glasgow Gailes on Thursday evening, Old Prestwick twice on Friday and Dundonald Links twice on Saturday :D :D

You're in for a real treat.

3 hours from Manchester and your not in the north west! If your looking around the North West then you could head over towards southport, so many to choose from, Formby! Southport! Birkdale! Royal Liverpool, or head over to lovely Lymm, only 30 mins from the airport. You will be more than welcome!

I was a member at Silloth for a few years and I think it is a magnificent track and well worth a detour. Friendly membership too. Brampton is a nice enough course, but not, in my opinion, in the same league at all.

Couldn't agree more with this. Carlisle is a super course and literally 2 minutes from the M6 and probably 2 hours from the airport. Silloth is fantastic if you like a challenging links (and for very reasonable green fees). Dumfries is a furthe 30-40 mins but County is very good as is Dumfries and Galloway just down the road.
