Spotted a new product
Being launched by somebody not far from me, in the north east
A non conforming wedge

Simple questions.....

Would you buy....?
If so
What price would you pay....?

My own personal opinion
( for what it’s worth )
Is.....looks a real fun product
But as it’s non conforming
I honestly think the price is a just a little bit OTT considering what else can be bought at that price point

£120 for a bit of fun.....
Mmm..not convinced about that idea.
If it's non-conforming then I can't see the point.
You'll play social rounds and get used to the extra spin then, when you play a qualifier, you revert to conforming wedges and you don't get the same spin...
So......why?
I'd rather spend 120 notes on a wedge I can use all the time.

By non conforming I presume it is because of it having square grooves. There is nothing wrong with buying a second hand one (which would be conforming) saving

money in the process.

From memory it was only 'illegal' to buy a new one after 2014 but ones bought befor then can be used until about 2022.

If you know its non conforming and can't use it in competitive play why would you bother buying one. Am I completely missing the point if the post

Even saying it would be fun in bounce games, I fail to see that as well because you get used to using this fun piece of kit then go use a different wedge in a comp and can't control it the same.

I guess there is a big enough market of regular players who don’t play in competitions that might be happy to use non-conforming clubs for a bit of an edge and to have more fun.

Your mate isn't buying a bunch is he? :D

I can't see the point if they are effectively illegal. It's a lot to pay for something you can only use on certain occasions. I'd only want something I can use all of the time.

I think you are confusing aspects of the equipment rules - in a big way!

There is no relevance whatsoever to buying this product second-hand - it's a non-conforming club.

It fails on section 5 b (2) without even having to do any measurements! The manufacturers claims would be enough.

The following direct quote from the equipment rules might help you;
For the avoidance of doubt, all new models available after 31 December 2009 must conform to the current Equipment Rules.

.
.

My reference to buying second hand was meant that the player could buy a secondhand club (not necessarily the one being offered) that would be conforming because it has been used but could not buy the same club new.

I would be guided by what it say in the current equipment rules

The groove and punch mark specifications were updated in 2010 and many pre-2010 models of clubs do not meet the new specifications. The above Notes mean that the vast majority of golfers can continue to carry clubs manufactured prior to 2010 until at least 2024.

but based upon the original statement that new clubs that failed to meet the new rules could only be sold up until a certain date (cannot find the specific date).

Think i would just purchase clubs that are conforming - use the same clubs week in week out whether in practice or comps. Not sure of the benefit of using different clubs depending on whether the round is just "for fun".

No I would not buy knowingly a non conforming club, no point in my eyes.

i cant believe this thread ever got started ,non conforming clubs ,and would you buy them ,REALLY , cmon nobody is going to knowingly pay out hard earned cash on something that you cant use in competition are they ? even if it was for a knockup with mates i would be telling them that they wont be taking any of my money if they use it .

No. What's the point in playing your practise rounds with a wedge you then can't use in your next comp?

Spot on. There is no point.

And really, how much difference is a non conforming club going to make? Sharper grooves doesn't transform a 28 handicapper into a single figure golfer.
