non conforming golf club

My Ping Tisi TEC and latterly my G20 have been the best drivers I have ever owned. Long and straight :)

just shows Ping could keep up without needing the extra COR I suppose..

That era wasn't Ping's greatest period!

That was why the G2 was such a big club for them.

The also had a bit of an issue with grooves - remember the Eye 2 square groove issue(s).

FFS Imurg, i'l concede that the first line of my post was a bit ambiguous and could be construde to mean something different to what i intended. Is that better?:whoo:
I agree with you reguarding the wedges it does seam mad to sell the legal one for less than the rebel one. Is there a market for illegal gear? I guess there must be otherwise why sell it, someone must be buying it, my mate for one.
There are other companies out there selling dodgy product, infact i was quite suprized just how many. One you may of heard of is Kane Golf, they're still selling their dodgy missile launcher. I admit not as big a name as dunlop though.
You think they are insane and doing themselves an injustice by selling this stuff, thats fair enougth i can see your point. Personally though as long as they're upfront and not trying to con anyone i don't have a problem, but thats just my opinion.
Reguarding this topic though here's a genuine question:-
I've noticed that the rebel driver doesn't appear on the non-conforming list. Does that mean it could be used at non elite level comps: if they took the illegal stamp of ??

I guess it would depend on whether they've submitted it to the R&A.
As they're selling it as an illegal club there wouldn't be much point.
R&A can only rule on clubs they know about....

Cheers
So i guess if someone's looking to buy a club from one of the smaller manufacturers they need to be checking the list of conforming clubs not the non. Good to know.

I was discussing the rebel club today with the person who owned it. and some folk don't know things about conforming clubs mental. I asked what is the largest size a driver can be, nothing. eh what you talking about davy?? lol

Many of the more expensive Japanese brands still make non conforming drivers, as do Williams f1. They are very expensive too. I guess the target market is the company CEO, who plays 4 games a year with his fellow ceos, and wants bragging rights. They can do what they want, I doubt they ever put any cards in.

IIrc I think Taylor Made bought out a non conforming driver some years back. A version of the R5 one of the first of the R series which we now all know well. Either that or it was later decided it was illegal due to its "trampoline effect" face. My mate still has his and it goes bloody miles!! When hes not in comps of course!! :o

the rules changed and a huge number of clubs became non-conforming, in TMs case this affected a few of the the 3xx, 5xx ranges, and then a subsequent change caught a version of the R7 Quad, which may be the one you are referencing. They made changes to make it conforming and you will find many versions of the conforming R7 Quad as well!
they didn't manufacture it to be non-conforming, and weren't marketing it when it was.
