I know what you mean. I've just aquired the whole "Life on Mars" series 1&2 boxed set to get my fill of retro police drama with a touch of ironic comedy.

A few episodes into Ashes to Ashes my other half and I decided we ought to watch Life on Mars first really. Preferred it, so would definitely recommend it if you've not seen it.
