there's always one shot that makes me want to play another round.

Went out yesterday afternoon, with a mate, had a shocker, on the front nine, started getting frustrated with myself, which never helps my game. Especially when its a bit cold and damp. However on the 14th Tee, was just trying out a full swing, which I have major problems with, approached the ball, gave it my all and bombed it 230 yards down the fairway. Ended up with a bogey after I managed to hit a post with my second shot, and ended up 20 yards back from where I was.
But still it was the one tee shot that makes me want to go round again and again.
As much as I hate golf sometimes, I love it at the same time!!

Well said, that sums up why I love the game so much, there is always something to drag you back in, be it a great drive or a long putt. Generally there will always be something positive to take from a round, regardless of whether you have played well or not:thup:

I played a round in February, and frankly, it was terrible even by my low standards.

But one 3 wood I nailed 200 yards down the fairway gave me the motivation to book some lessons and sort myself out, and it's very slowly coming together now

there's always someone crapper!!

Yesterday (was playing quite tidily actually) as I walked onto the 9th green there was a guy on the 1st tee. He gave it his all and it trickled towards my feet. He was desperately seeking it somewhere on the fairway or at least in front of him until I advised him that it hadn't got even close to the ladies tee.

I also agree 100% with the OP

Now I am not a member of a club and I have to pay for every round I find myself hitting 2 or 3 shots that make me say:

"THAT was worth coming out for!"

The score in the end is the best I can do, so if its high then its high and if its low then its low. I play golf at the moment for the feeling those shots give me out on the course.

Last time I played it was two drives that were level with par 4 greens, one par 3 tee shot to about 4 feet. Sometimes its an approach shot, a chip or a putt instead.

If I was a member of a club I would probably be playing to a level where the score at the end mattered more to me but the shots or a birdie or two would still feel pretty good.

For me, it was an entire hole that gave me an enormous sense of satisfaction. A good drive down the middle of the fairway, a good 2nd shot, my 3rd onto the green that ended up about 2 foot from the pin and a putt for birdie :)

I also made a few putts that i couldn't seem to manage last week. All in all makes me look forward to tuesdays round :)
