No Majors for Woods this year......Good.

But no doubt the same media that hails Tiger all the time is just fine with you guys then?

And its ok for you guys to accuse and condem through a media format(forum), someone elses(or a groups) opinion, which I for one see as only pointing out the facts in most cases.

If your beloved Tiger gets just good press and zero condemnation of his bad behavior, then thats fair to you guys is it?????

Please tell me your not in charge of anything important guys. :D

Keef: I find your 'un-critical' view and blind adulation of him a smidge strange, particularly as his conduct is so miserable.

Additionally, I didnt see anyone else hawk a gobful of phlegm all over the green whilst waiting for their partner to putt out , and doubt very much that anyone did, its disgusting. That kind of action from the World's supposed No1 & icon to millions is simply unnacceptable in my opinion, is that so bad ?

Lots of others missed putts, but simply looked quizzically at the line, holed out, and moved away.
All we get from TW is a 'Goddamn it', a face like a slapped arse, and that 'how dare it miss - doesnt it know who I am ?? ' look after every missed putt.

Its not blind adulation at all, I know the guy has his faults but I dont go jumping on the "Tiger Woods is a nob" bandwagon like you and other do at every possible opportunity.

I happen to admire the guys mental approach to the game, his shot making ability and his putting ability, it is second to none without doubt, as already stated I also see he has his bad points, but doesnt everyone? Nobody is perfect.

With regards to "Additionally, I didnt see anyone else hawk a gobful of phlegm all over the green", did you not see the US Open when Anthony Kim was playing with Tiger? Spitting and chucking his clubs all over the place? Nobody mentioned it at all on here.

Tiger is a victim of his own success, because of who he is the camera is on him a whole lot more than anyone else, everything he does & says is picked up on the camera and then repeated in 8 million frames per second swing vision, if he wasnt as succesful and the cameras followed other players more, you would see a lot more petulance from them all.....just the cameras follow Tiger a lot more!

Exactly a victim of his success, and along with the additional positive coverage comes the extra negative. I think some pros are quite happy when they are not always in the limelight.

They follow him even when he is playing poor not because he is a victim of his own success but because the industry are creaming his name off the TW wonnabes.

I happen to like Tiger. I'd rather see him than not see him. When he's in the final group of a major then I'd EXPECT to see him quite a bit in the coverage...spits an' all :)

There needs to be some definition here. It was US pictures but covered by the same people e.g Sky who bring the so called great coverage of European events Woods isn't in. Lets be honest Harmon won't say anything negative against Woods after everything he's done. Basically Woods in his early years on tour made Harmons reputation. As a result Harmon only ever sees the good in a Woods shot. I usually like Ewan Murray but he is becoming way to sycophantic over Woods and his ability and it is stopping him becoming a truely decent commentator. Rob Lee trys too hard to impress and so was as guilty of over egging his opinion on what to me were good shots in a pressurised situation but hardly the greatest ever shots he described.

Woods is great. His record shows this and as a golfer I admire him. As a performer though I find his petulance and need to find a scapegoat for errant shots disappointing and something that prevents him being seen as one fo the games greats like Nicklaus, Watson and Ballesteros who would hit a bad one and then find a way to recover without the need to hurl abuse, spit or chuck clubs.

Woods has become a victim of his success and will continue to have every move scrutinised in the press, TV and forums like this across the globe. He will continue to win and will probably win more majors but it was refreshing to see him wilt in battle by someone who seemed totally unflappable and in control

as to why we don't see anyone else spitting and chucking is simple, the cameras are only on Tiger so how can we see them?

suffering as I am from a dearth of golf (thanks Setanta/Virgin and what happened to ESPN picking up the coverage?) I've resorted to watching baseball. weird game, and the spitting syndrome is far, far worse. I'm surprised they don't have to swim out or all come down with TB.

oh, and I don't think TW will be around for a long, long time. If he gets Jack's record he'll quit. and I did say if.

Well he must be saving himself for next season now as he's next scheduled to play at the WGC-HSBC Champions in November as his next Tour event. Think he's running scared ? ;)

I never said I didn't like tiger, its the coverage that he gets anoys the hell out of me. The coverage started 3 hours before TW teed it up and all we got was what TW had done since he started playing. Why can't they show the players out on the course. So lets say Man Utd were playing a match, and Ronney wasn't comming on to the 2nd half, does sky show what he has done in the years before, no they show the match. SO why can't they show the rest of the field? The europen coverage is getting as bad, they only show the leaders, unless someone holds a long putt or chips in from 300 yards. In the good old days of BBC coverage we got to watch everyone. I bet Ewan Murray wears TW boxers, the man is obbsessed with him.
Does anyone else notice whenever TW has a chip or a long putt, how hard it always seems to be. But for anyother player it's always a straight forward shot! according to the so called "know all's".

I dont dislike TW, I just cant stand the coverage he get's.
It's fantastic he didn't win a major this year. Egg on their face's.

I'm neither for or against Tiger. When he plays the best and wins, fair play. When he loses to a better golfer, so be it.
I don't like his antics (of late). I used to admire him immensely but recently the whole body language thing has been dodgy.
Some players have "ruled" over their own niche in golf. For Monty, it was the european o.o.m. for Faldo, the majors between (ooh, say 1986 and 1992, discounting the Masters in '96). Tiger was the best player in the world. He probably still is but he's not got the full game a.t.m.
When these players know they are not quite all there, they have two choices, step up to the mark without fuss or publicly show their frustration. When T.W. puts his toys back in the pram and gets his game back to it's untouchable best, I'll be in full admiration.

What you have to remember with the coverage, is that Sky are reliant on the pictures from the host broadcaster, in this case CBS. Sky do actually provide a number of extra cameras which is why every so often you'll get the odd shot of a European already out playing a shot or putting. However these cameras are usually in a fixed location dictated by the USPGA in this cae or the Masters committee etc which is why they can't follow them in the normal way and give you the footage you are asking for.

I agree that it seems pointless putting a programme on an hour before the leader is due out but to be fair they did start covering the field from the last three or four groups so there was live action after about 40 minutes. However until CBS went live to air in the US you were never going to get full coverage and once play begain SKy are still only able to react to the pictures they show.

I've just re-read all the posts in this tread. Some balanced, some vitriolic some naïve.

I don't think anything Tiger supporters write will change the opinions of those who dislike him. The fact that he engenders such strong emotions in his detractors says more to me about them than about Tigers failings.

It's interesting that all against him admit that he's a brilliant golfer and all his supporters admit that he's not perfect.

I'm a supporter of his but this tread has made me review why I accept his failings as part of the full package.
Firstly I know golf. I've played for nearly forty years and have seen all the greats since the mid 1960s onwards. They were no saints. All had supreme self belief that could be interpreted as arrogance, but in sport arrogance is not a dirty word. It's a prerequite for greatness.

Gamesmanship was, is and always will be part of golf, probably more than any other game, but it must not be confused with being unsporting. In matchplay I never let an opponent putt from 3 feet or less in the first six holes, I always concede the putt, but I never give a putt, no matter how short, in the last six holes. You'd be surprised how often players twitch as a round draws to a close. Even if they don't miss some get a bit pissed that they weren't given an 18 incher and the cup gets smaller on the next hole. I was schooled long ago never to be upset if you're not given a putt. If it's close enough to give it's close enough to make.

Spitting, swearing and club slamming. Not nice, no excuse. Tiger offers none but says he's been trying to get better his "entire life". I empathise with him because although I'm not a spitter I used to renowned for kicking hell out of my bag and uttering expletives that would make a navvy blush. 99 times out of a 100 I was angry with me. Nowerdays I accept that I suffer from LOFT. Lack Of Fecking Talent.

Tiger has a sense of humour but I marshalled at Sandwich a couple of times and he plays in a cauldron of pressure and expectation that no other player has to endure. Hard to crack a joke in such circumstances. The greats of the past recognise how good he is, Jack has said he's the best putter of all time, and all of the current players know if he's in the field, winning means more than if he's abscent.
POD and Tiger seem to have a genuine friendship, That's enough for me.

The PGA is my least favorite major. American crowds are shite and the commentators are Tiger obscessed so I have true sympathy for some posters on here, but unless you've played golf with a passion and a screaming desire to win you'll never understand or forgive Tiger his faults. I don't ask you to, however I would ask you to consider that on the course gentlemen can be bastards.
