Nightmare hole

On the course that I am a member there is one hole that is frustrating me no end. It's the 15th and is stroke index 18, 280 yd Par4. Sounds easy. Problem for me is that if you hit it left off the tee at all and your out of bounds. 7 or even 9 of the tee is not unheard of for me here. Now I normally fade or slice my drive from the tee, so you think that this hole would present no problems. For some unknown reason though I hit left from this tee. It's obviously something going on in my head. Last week I resorted to taking a 7 iron from the tee to make sure I was in play.
Any tips on how to ignore out of bounds?

Cue.....Dr Dave.

Stop larking around, what's wrong with a 7 iron if you can guarantee it's not off the course?

I use a 5 iron off the tee on the longest hole at my course. My average score is 5.2. I shan't change the plan unless I develop a 275 draw with driver.

It's all in the head. If you can't fix your head, don't even try the shot.

ding, ding, next please....

:D

The 1st at my club ( East Berkshire ) is the SI 18. It's a par 4 at 289 yards.

When I first joined the club, it was driver all the way, but my scores were all over the place, normally bogey or double. After a while I started clubbing down, 3-wood -> Hybrid -> 4 iron. Now I only hit a 6 or 7 iron depending on the wind and leave myself 100-120yards. Now, I expect to get down in 4, if I don't it's normally because I've failed to get up and down when missing the green with my second shot.

It is noticeable, that just about all the better players take an iron off this tee.

Iron off tee on Sunday and took a six. Stayed in bounds though, but duffed my second shot.

ok, but at least you had a second shot right ?

Better than being OOB, under a tree, in a bush etc etc

Wise words RGDave.

That said, I have always forund the 18th at Crowborough Beacon impossible to par and the only time I managed it was when I belted a huge drive with a draw.

Like the man says, hole by hole strategy is a good idea.

Snelly.
