If he has the health insurance, why not use it. Come on health insurance is less than what you pay to buy a family car per month.

The problem is not the nhs its society, who believe they are owed, think yourself lucky that some mug is willing to pay you. Who knows tomorrow they could wise up and get someone in for half the price.

People in society pay taxes and NI that help fund the NHS so yes they are entitled to medical from the NHS

Yes I know that but if your wealthy enough to afford health insurance which as I have stated early is less than renting or leasing a new car.... Now I am going to wind up all the smokers and say they need to make double contributions and pay for their ops ..

Just because people have insurance doesn't mean they should be allowed to get treatment on the NHS !! Utter nonsense.

Use the insurance that is why you have it... Can't take it with you when you go.

Oh yeah an alcoholic damage that's another one that should not be footed by the nhs ...

you do realise that the tax generated from smoking does actually exceed the amount it costs to treat it. I was reading something in January regarding this, seeing as I had just given up and gone onto vaping instead. The government are looking at a way of taxing vape machines because it is going to cost a lot of money otherwise. You can't start deciding healthcare on people's lifestyle choices. So if someone chooses to play football on a Saturday afternoon and breaks his leg, then is it fair that someone who does not play foots his bill? Bit of a ridiculous statement I know, but do you see where I am coming from.

Neither should anyone who has an RTA while exceeding the speed limit.

Do you watch FOX news in your spare time? Because you sound like one of their political commentators............

If it wasn't for the fantastic NHS I wouldn't have seen my 9th birthday, major heart Op, now 50 and going strong.
If it wasn't for the 'not so fantastic' parts of it, my golfing mate's father might still be alive!

However, the owner of the course where he plays most certainly wouldn't be! Double pneumonia; heart restarted 3 times; miraculous procedure of oxygenating the blood externally - with something 20-30% survival rate!

So individually and collectively heroes, but some serious flaws in 'the system'. Unfortunately, a bottomless pit funding-wise! And then there is the cover-up culture - which the news media should really take some blame for, but never does!

Nope, just chucking it back in the faces of those who expect everyone to pick up after them, just because they make a contribution. That contribution is there for those who don't or are not as lucky.

The smokers argument is an interesting one. I am as anti-smoking as anyone, and smokers certainly cost the NHS a lot of money (I have treated many myself), but they also contribute a lot in extra duty payments on their cigarettes and relieve the pension burden of the country by dying off early. So society probably comes out ahead.

What about those who have eaten all the pies, those with bad genes, those who play football or rugby when they are a bit past it? Are they all to be penalised too?

Sounds like a plan ... !
reminds me of when I thought about playing some football for the village as a bit of exercise. Watched a game and there was a big bloke putting it around. Just thought perhaps not, one doesn't need the agro or the injury. So played hockey instead and ripped the acl in my right knee. Never went to a and e, just strapped it up and went home , booked some physio.

If you have "ripped" your ACL then there is no way you could have just strapped it and went home ? You wouldnt be able to walk - I had to have an op and was out of action for 12 months.

I am quite happy to pay for your medical care, if you can't afford better ... I am a selfless kind of chap. I won't moan about the NHS nor will I burden them when I can afford private medical insurance. Alright my car is 7 years old but she still runs smoothly and I don't need another. I don't drink at pubs, old man always said it was a waste of money. Don't buy nike trainers for my 16 month boy either.

They found it was ripped when I had a bucket tear of the meniscus. I played a lot of hockey the muscles stabilized the knee they confirmed it with the key hole surgery to my knee.
My doctor did question my pain threshold, but it's quite normal, I just get on with it.

So it wasnt your ACL then ? Actually was the cartilage not the ligament

The ACl wasnt attached ?!? Your knee would collapse.

Have a nice evening
No it doesn't don't talk cobblers, the acl stops it from going too far. My knee now moves too far unless I keep all the muscles exercised. If you have wimpy little stringy legs I guess it would be an issue. I cannot do changes of direction but I don't need to.
