James Murdoch has announced that this Sunday will be the last issue of the News of the World and that the paper will be shut down.

I'm stunned.

I'm not saying it is a bad thing but. as Britain's biggest selling newspaper, it is a staggering decision.

Not really staggering IMO as it is a damaged brand. No big company wants to advertise in it and without that it is as dead as a dodo!

I mentioned this as a possibility to HID the other day - she said that it would never happen.
Just shows what Women know doesn't it - no offence Jan!!

It may be a damaged brand (very badly damaged) but to close down a newspaper of that size, previous success and profitability is still huge.

It leads me to think that there are more appalling revelations still to come.

They're just trying to divert the bad press in the hope that people will think "Well done Mr Murdoch! not standing for any nonsense and shutting the paper down" when in actual fact they've been running it in this way quite happily until this debacle and somebody high up must have known about it

It's just that the S**t has hit the fan big time and the slimeballs can see no easy way out.

Yep. Agreed.

Murdooch protecting the rest of his empire.

However. The 'z' list so called celebs deserved it. They court the gutter press anyway. As for the victims and families from murder cases, soliders etc, News Int are nothing but a bunch of scumbags. As for the rossers implied in back handers. I hope they get caught and thrown in the slammer.

That should liven it up a bit. :p

I'm not surprised at all, without advertisers they have nothing.

Never ever bought the paper anyway.

Golfmmad.

Sunday Sun a week later, same presses/staff blah blah blah

same sh1t different day!

It was nothing but a rag anyway,as already stated, this is just an attempt to divert peoples attention away from News Internationals other interests.
Its about time somebody did something about Murdoch and his devious and sleazy business practices.
Hang the lot of them i say, including Camerons gofer, who has also been implicated.
As a caller said on the Jeremy Vine show today...."these people are lowlife scum, why do we let them escape prosecution for there vile practices ? they should be jailed and left with nothing"

think HRC could be close with this & this could very well be the case

So the People and Sunday Mirror aren't as guilty for courting Z listers, revealing who is bonking who etc. They are all damaged goods in one form or another. Personally I haven't bought a Sunday paper for years. Mail on Sunday and Express are too full of politics as are the broadsheets and I can't be asked with 74 different sections. I'm afraid the printed paper as news medium will soon be on the way out and all the NOTW has done is speed the process.
