News of the World closed down

I think that you can look at this on a number of levels

1 , Its tragic that some 200 jobs are at risk because of this decision, im not talking about the editors, journalists or executives. Im talking about normal people with normal jobs who had nothing to do with this mess.

2, Its always nice to see a bunch of "High & Mighty" journalists, get caught with their trousers down, The Gutter press still exists. Also the issue of the Police getting paid for giving information to the paper is going to be huge.
Private Eye are going to have a field day.

3, I think Murdoch has his eye on the bigger picture, News Of The Screws was a damaged brand, and the increasing kerfuffle was going to effect his takeover of SKY. Which is where the real money is.

By distancing himself and taking "decisive action" by chopping the paper, he shows the monopolies commission that apparantly he is "a fit and proper person", also as part of the sky deal, they were having to sell Sky News, well as now the paper has closed, he has less of a monopoly in the UK press, so that eases the pressure on him too.

Im sure in a few weeks we shall see the "Sunday Sun" emerge

We dont buy papers, we get the Metro and the evening standard 3 times a week when the boss goes to the office.

Fragger

I honestly can't tell you the last time I bought a paper...why would anyone need to nowadays???

Likewise, I blame the NotW, Murdoch, News Corp and the gobsh1tes who buy non-absorbant bog-paper/newspapers.

there was a time when newspapers researched and reported valuable, genuinely in-the-public-interest stories, though of course there always were the NOTW's.
Even now, with TV and the internet, a good printed paper can do some stories better; after all TV news is nothing but sound bites and what you get on the net is often little more than that.

Not in the least sad to see NotW go, wasn't even worth using to wrap your chips

Only time I remember "reading" the NOTW (correctly spelt NOWT because that's what it contains) was as a young lad. Ahh page 3 my first time experiencing naked lady lumps. Now with the internet it serves no such purpose to the youth of today.

Closing NOWT is like cutting the tail of a rabid dog. It might look a bit different but it can still bite you.

I agree with some of the above posts - its just a cynical move to try and stop the rot spreading through the whole of the company.

I hope it does not stop there tbh and they get everyone involved in the dreadful business of hacking servicemen's families and bereaved families.

However its also a move that puts the innocent ones that are left on that particular title out of work while those higher up are still carrying on so shame on the whole company for how it has treated the decent public, the employees and the rest of us for thinking we will be fooled by the move. :D

Winner of the biggest lie of all time - Rebekah Brooks - "I knew nothing about it".

She must have some seriously dodgy pictures of Murdoch to still be in a job.

Or does she have proof that Murdoch knew what was going on and will spill the beans if she's fired ......

No offence Phil, the NOTW has made billions out of slagging the unemployed off with its extreme far right views. The same chain claimed Liverpool fans were looting dead fans and pissing on the dead.

Murdoch is the one who needs his empire stripped, if he hadnt bought Cameron pre-election then this take over of bskyb would never be on the cards. After Coulson resigned in 2007 how he could become a government spin doctor is beyond me.

I agree with "Sunday Sun" the domain was bought a few days ago.. I wonder who bought that.

Never bought the trashy rag in my life, it’s about time that scummy paper got its comeuppance. I wish its ugly sister the Sun would go the same way.

It’s not the first time News International has scoured the gutter. I will never forget or forgive the Sun for the disgusting lies about the dead and dying of the Hillsborough tragedy. Their motto has always been “never let the truth stand in the way of a good story”.

I read the mail, but on look out for another paper, I am getting just about fed up with that papers ultra right wing bias reporting as well.
