Newcastle United

We will see how big a club they are when the real big clubs come looking at BA Cisse, Cabaye and a few weeks when the transfer window opens, cant see them staying even if they can offer Champions League football when others cant

ha ha.... absolutely PATHETIC from most of you............hardly a good word to say amongst 75-80% of you......

trying to turn my post from just praising the postion NUFC are in.......(after relegation 2 seasons ago ) an UNBELIEVABLE position actually.......

to......all this "not a big club won nowt dont like Pardew blah blah blah shyte ".I couldnt give a toss what some of yous think/come out with.

NUFC.....4TH IN THE LEAGUE..........52,000 CROWD...........STITCH THAT.

Newcastle are 4th in the league because they have had a very good season, the rest of the big clubs havent, will be interesting to see where they finish next season and I would be willing to wage a few quid that it will be below City, Chelsea, united, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool.

To be fair they have performed well, despite most of us 4 months ago thinking they would drop like a stone, as the season went on. If they get 4th, which I hope they do, they will appreciate it more than the other top teams would, so enjoy your moment. I'd rather they get it than Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea (obviously we wont).

Big club - thorny subject. A relatively big club, shall we say. Me and my mate went through wikipedia one day and counted 30+ clubs who have won the league, FA cup or league cup since Newcastle won a domestic trophy in the 50's (I know they won a european trophy in the 70's).

One thing I dont get is, they say that the north east is a football 'hotbed' , but not the north west. They have 3 big clubs and 2 others. We have four big clubs and 20 odd others. Newcastle and Sunderland (who are one club cities) have 80,000 regular fans. We have 2 cities that support four clubs which have a regular 200,000 fans. Go figure.

I dont think you can give Ashley any credit, as he hasn't given Pardew all the recouped money. Pardew deserves credit, but I think it will go to his head.

This post is sobering me up.......

Newcastle have capitalised on the poor form of those around them, which isn't to take anything away from what they've achieved.

This season, more so than any season since the Keegan/Fergie circus, they look like a team with a free spirit again. They're playing attractive football, and they have resilience. I still think they're prone to the odd gaffe, but there's not a team in the league who aren't this season.

I don't understand people saying "they deserve it more than..." etc - the season is 3-5 games away from ending - if clubs don't deserve to be where they are in the league now, when will they ever? Arsenal are 3rd because our form in the second half of the season (well, February), has been nothing short of top drawer. Chelsea are where they are because they've been poor in the league. Newcastle are 4th because they've been quality, picked up points where they should have done, and given the teams above them a good battle as well.

I hope they get 4th, purely so Tottenham don't.

With all that said, Pardew is an utter twonk.

Certainly don't begrudge the Geordie boys their five mins in the limelight...

Like others I thought they would run out of steam after a flying start to the season... But where others have foundered they've found an extra burst that potentially could see them in the CL next season...

I'm not Ashleys biggest fan and his public profile is horrendous, but you cant knock what he has done. He brought a manager in who nobody wanted and stuck to a game plan of top class scouting, careful purchases and clever business. The only really stupid thing he done was bring in Dennis Wise to undermine Keegan, but whos to say that wasn't in his game plan?

The players he has brought in are good enough to warrant transfer speculation about moving to bigger clubs, but why move when they are guaranteed football at a club which lets face it, at some point over the the last 20 years most of the country have classed as their second team to watch.

I'm a proud Geordie and will follow the club through thick and thin, I'm just glad to see we are back on track after messrs Gullit and Dalglish dismantled the most entertaining team this country has ever seen

Come on Guys........Lighten Up.....wots with all the 'Hating'
Yesterday, Great Performance, Great 3 Points

This Season, Amazing, Results and Performances

Beginning of season, Id hav taken Top 10, so to get where they are, Unreal

Ashley -- NOT a Fan, but he IS a Business Man, and he IS running the Club, like a Business, which IT IS, others need to follow suit, or More clubs will be in Financial trouble

Pardew -- NOT a Fan, NEVER thought he was the RIGHT choice, but he HAS got RESULTS. I thought it was WRONG to ditch Hughton, after bringing the team straight back up, with the team we had, Id doubt SIR ALEX could hav done a better job

Big Club -- Big Support, Big Stadium, Big Fan Base, Big Season, Big Potential, Big Club.....?? Not For Me, and Im Newcastle Born and Bred, But I DONT wear rose tinted glasses

So come on Guys, Stop the Hating, and stand back and applaud what WE have achieved, the Premier League was in danger of becoming Boring, and people should be happy when another team Breaks the 'Stranglehold' that the 'BIG 4' seemed to have as of late

Despite his knockers and I was one of them when Ashley appointed Wise and Keegan resigned, Ashley has learned by his lessons and bought financial stability to the club. Pardue has always been a good honest manager but has never been given the opportunity to show what he can do with the right team and correct back room staff behind him and I was happy when he was appointed unlike many other supporters. he's not the finished article as he is still learning the job and about his players who have performed very well.

It is true that the transfer window will be a big test for Newcastle when teams like Manchester City/Utd and Chelsea start knocking on the door for the likes of Krull, Tiote, Ba, Cisse, Cabaye and HBA however with the exception of Ba they all have long term contracts so it will be interesting.

As for big clubs in todays economy you have to look at financial stability and revenue because whether you like it or not football is a business. In this aspect Newcastle are a big club. When it comes to gates and support third in the league is a very respectable position and people soon forget that when Keegan was in his element Newcastle were at one point rated as the third biggest club in Europe behind Barcelona and Manchester Utd.

Ok Newcastle haven't won as many trophies as many of the teams in the Premiership however since forming in 1892 Newcastle have been one of the best supported teams in Europe attracting some of the highest gates in the UK for over 120 yrs. Trophies aside you cannot say that Newcastle are not a big club especially when they have rarely been outside the top 20 of European teams in terms of revenue and turnover.

I must admit i like Newcastle, they are playing great football.
There scouting team are doing a fantastic job,and surely thats down to Ashley.
However memories seem short to the Toon army.
They all wanted Ashley out,and they never wanted Pardew.
Only 2% in a poll wanted to give Pardew a chance.
Now there all singing his praises, which of course he deserves.
But i guarentee if it all goes wrong, they will all shout i told you so.
I believe they will get fourth, and chelsea wont win the CL so good luck
to them in qualifying for the CL next season.

I find this funny.
The fans wanted Ashley out and hated Pardew.
One good season and now they are the bees knees.

No doubt Newcastle are a big club.
Put their record against any English team over a 120 year period.
As a 'neutral' Scot I have always wished Newcastle well.
It is good to see that they seem to have got their act in order.
You only have to look at Rangers to see how easy it is to let ambition overtake good business sense.

Football fans are fickle, didn't the Gooners want Wenger sacked a few months ago? Harry was the star man only a few months ago and now do Spurs fans really care if he takes the England job? Pardew was rubbish but look at what he has achieved. King Kenny was the messiah, what a laugh. Exciting end to the season though!!

Cisse's second goal is absolutley incredible. I thought Crouch had scored the goal of the season a few weeks ago, but tonight I have chnaged my mind. An outrageous strike that HAS to be seen to be believed. Fair play to Pardew for finding him....I hate to think what his price tag will be next season! Cracking bit of business

The problem with Pardew is who he's sleeping with at the club. The man has no morals apparently and he'll sleep with anyone's wife.
Speaking to various people 'in the know', that's been his undoing at all the club's he managed at.

Good luck to Newcastle though, they're going great guns.
