Newbie need help buying clubs

Hello,

I have decided to take up golf.

I will be having lessons and using the driving range for a while before I play a full round, just need some help in buying a full set of clubs.

My budget isn't huge about £200 to £300 max, because I just want a set I can start with incase I don't get hooked.

I have been looking at these sets, what do you think?

Or I could spend an extra £50 and get these:

Or would I be better buying a better set of irons, a putter and a driver and then just add to the set as I go along as a friend of mine has suggested.

Any other sugggestions within my price range?

See if the pro that is giving you lessons has access to any cheap stuff. He might have some second hand stuff,or an old range which he'll sell cheap.

It’s hard to advise on this, I am not a big fan of sets, but as a totally new golfer and looking at your links I think it’s a very reasonable way to get started. I think if I were you I would get one of them and as you get hooked and gain a little skill you will find out what clubs you like and what the extra money and tech will get you. The 1st major upgrade I made after my 1st set of clubs was new woods as I found the new technology helped me keep the ball straight and long, this has really helped my confidence and you will find this game is alot about that.

I think in golf you tend to get what you pay for so spend as much as you feel comfortable with

I would be inclined to hold off for now. Get a few lessons and see whether you like the game. Then, if you want to get a set, ask the pro for some advice. You can buy plenty of perfectly decent sets from ebay or second hand sets from pro shops that will do well for years to come.
