NEW TaylorMade R9 460 driver

Blimey......it didn't take them long to bring out another R9 driver did it? I was tempted to buy the R9 420 but decided to wait till the price came down a bit. I'm very glad I did now, I would have been very anoyed if I had.

This must be what, all of 6 weeks after the intial release.

I am sure we were pre warned when they released the last one that this one was on the way, I also think they were going to release a smaller one, but that has been shelved for now - just looks like the usual taylormade tat to me

Well if we were I missed it, and if I did I'm sure many others did.

I may have dreamt it I have a young son (22 months) so I kind of live it an alternate reality a lot of the time - you may have noticed

Aparently the R9 460 will be available in higher lofts than the original model. Which might suit certain types of players.

Still can't justify £300 on a new driver though. Especially as someone has already pointed out, it'll be half the price in 6 months, and half again in 12!!

As a TM user even I find it frustrating at their need to wait a matter of weeks to roll out a new model. Most other manufacturers all seem to roll out a product in all its guises at one time and surely it would have been better for public opinion if TM had released this at the intial launch. They could have easily focussed the smaller head on the better player and then targetted the golfing masses with the larger and deeper face. To my untrained eye the functionality of changing the set-up hasn't altered either.

Poor show TM

Usual TM stuff I am afraid. That is why I like Titleist. A new set of drivers every two years. Enough time to get some proper progress, not just a change of paint colour (although that too).

How many drivers do TM make now? and isn't that enough choice?

Have not looked at the pics, I assume it will look like a bigger R9.

why do they have to bring out another already, they should at least save it till end of year i think, and for £300. you would be a bit annoyed if you bought the original R9 and then this came out wouldn't you?
i certainly would.

Titleist, over priced? £230 for a 909D2 wih an Aldila voodoo shaft is incredible value. The shaft alone is worth well over £170 retail, so effectively you are getting the head and the grip for £60. You live on a very strange planet Parmo.

Titleist are great value £230 drivers and £130 fairways

They are getting cheaper on every new release the 906f's where £170 when they came out

TM are a bit of a joke with dozens of iron/driver models out i dont have a clue which is newer than what

I bought the original R9 10 days ago and have no regrets what-so-ever. I found the shape and size of the 420cc head was part of the appeal as well as the sound. For a modern thin faced driver it is much quieter and "solid" compared to the ear shattering biscuit tin rattle of most other drivers around.

If the new 460cc R9 is more forgiving than the 420cc headed R9 one of mine, then it must be to the detriment of workability. I find my R9 to be so much more forgiving than many drivers quoting far higher MOI figures, and yet it is a long driver too.

The adjustability is the icing on the cake for me as I intend to take some lessons this year and don't want to change the club for something that may suit me better; I can just adjust this club to any new traits I may need to learn. I can also change the shaft very easily if it is deemed necessary. It is set to the "NU" position ( slightly closed and 1 degree upright) and weight bias in the heel. This club has done wonders for my confidence, and over the last four games I've played 2 to 3 strokes under my handicap of 16, that before I was shooting 2 to 3 strokes over.

All indications are that the honeymoon will be a long one and the marriage solid. I'm at an age now that allows me to focus on those closest to me, and I feel I no longer have the wondering eye that comes with youth!

I don't need the R9 460cc and am very happy with my purchase of the 420cc model. If you wait until the next best thing comes along then that's all you do; wait!
