........... slow play dominates the game!
Jonathan Byrd is one of the main culprits in his group of 3 along with Stricker (not necessarily guilty) and Simpson (banged to rights guilty)

Get this. They played 9 holes in 2 hrs 10 mins and have already been warned by the officials. Makes an absolute mockery. It's about time they started adding strokes to these timewasters. I'm sure that would put a rocket up their jacksies!

It really is a virus...Penalty shots is the only answer. I know there's big money at stke but it's becoming a joke and so boring to watch in a limited field.

Yesterday, once again, we had the 4-ball playing at 4 ball pace being followed by a 2-ball who thought they could hit the ball 300 yards with every club, followed by a single with his Dad pulling his trolley - they both walked so slowly I thought cobwebs were going to start forming between them, I tried and I physically can't walk as slowly as they did, followed by another single followed by me.
The 4 ball wasn't playing particularly slowly - although 1 of them had a "golfing experience" over most shots, they were playing at 4 ball pace but the rest weren't challenging them to get through...

So a full 18 in 4 hours 20?

I bet most medal rounds are in this region. For tour golf, this doesn't seem that slow to me.

Yes, I like to be round a game of golf in 3 1/2 hours, but that is knocking it round in matchplay, for a hobby.

I'd ban Byrd from the next competition every time he's put on the clock. He is a joke of a player time wise. Its the only way to speed him up, ban him or add 2 penalty shots to his score every time he's put on the clock.

$10000 fines is pointless to these guys its like hitting me with a £1 fine, its pointless and won't speed up play.

Ha!! I do that just to keep me amused and stop the frustration building - how do people ever get anywhere walking that slow???

As Murph says 4 hours 20 isn't particularly slow for a Pro Tournament - in fact its quite swift - and although a 2-ball would probably only take 3 hours for a Medal at our standard, less than 15 minutes per hole isn't bad going, especially on par 5's as most of the Pros will be taking them on in 2 so have to wait for the green to clear.

Seriously Amanda, I was losing balance walking that slow, I was taking 2 steps to their 1 - never seen anyone walking so slowly - except this Old Girl around our way that literally takes a minute to cross the road, but then she is disabled, senile and 90...:mmm:

And I assume the obligatory waft of urine emitting from her?

What annoys me most is that why can't certain pro's be ready to hit their shot when it's their turn.

That stand and watch their playing partner go through their pre shot routine etc and play the shot and then decide to start discussing with their caddy the yardage/wind etc for a good minute or so.

It should be be done while they are stood waiting and be ready to play their shot pretty much straight after their partners.

I have to admit, normally slow play doesn't bother me, or I don't notice it when watching on TV, but watching the 3rd round on Sunday night it seemed to take Simpson and Stricker FOREVER to complete 9 holes! Simpson having 20 minute chats with his caddy on EVERY shot and worse walking DOWN TO THE GREEN (60 or 70 yards away) to take a better look at what his options are.

Knob.

penalty shots would cost them not just financially (which doesnt hurt at snr level) but it would put them way down the field, so in round 1-2 it might mean having to play early in round 3-4 (or missing the cut) which the sponsors wont like one bit as a lot less coverage.

OR

A Sin bin:rolleyes: if your on the clock twice in a round you are put aside in a portable sin bin to wait 30 mins, you are then put into the group arriving at that time who wont be happy with a slow coach joining, or if theres no-one else you are given a marker to complete your round......how embarrassing......how many would do that twice:mmm:

I honestly don't think that the players would care about embarrasment. In their heads they're perfectly justified in taking their time.

Imurg, have you thought about running up behind them with the outfit pictured in your threads on? I think they would get a move on!!!

I watched this last night to and was reading Luke's tweets. He's spot on and glad to see a pro speaking out publicly against this.

4h 20m for a 2 ball. That's just ridiculous. Especially when you consider the pro's are hitting a good 10-20 shots less than most of us a round and don't have as many wayward ones to look for.

IMHO it was completely avoidable. As has been said they were just never ready to take their shot when it was there turn.

I think warn them once. If they go over the max shot time then give them penalty shot for every time they do it.

Either that or cut a hand off for each infringement. I bet you wouldn't get a lot of repeat offenders :D
