New Season - New Club

I've joined Burgham Park GC in Northumberland. Looking forward to it although as it has recently come out of administration not everything is running as smoothly as it should yet. I've put my name down for Captain's Day on Saturday as a way of getting to know people early on. First comp in 2-3 years so I'm a tad nervous about that. Looking forward to getting the season under way now as it is a course I have liked for a while.

I've returned to the club I was a junior member at.

Played it well so far, won my first knockout match 6&5 and won a swizzle I joined in.

First St medal of the year this Saturday which I'm looking forward to, whether it'll be a qualifier or not I don't know!

New club for me also. Just joined Bull Bay Golf club. Looking forward to the new season. Road to category 1 starts now, Starting off att 7.4

I've finally bitten the bullet and joined one of the affiliate clubs at Braid Hills. Rocking up to my first comp on Saturday morning (though I can't actually compete as I don't have a handicap yet). Nerves!!!

Fragger's and myself are starting out at Whipsnade - first qualifier next Friday
Much as we'd like to lower the handicaps, i think, for the first year anyway, it's going to be a case of trying to maintain it..
We're finding Whipsnade a fairly unforgiving course. Get out of position and you're struggling.
Unfortunately i appear to be quite good at getting out of position..😖

Is that rough or trees, or a combination of both that makes it hard. I assume driving is a premium there? What would be an acceptable handicap for you to finish 2017 on

The par 5s are short but mostly dogleg so you need to be in the correct side. Same with many of the par 4s - not many straight ones.
I've shot 1) points on each ) just not in the same round so capable of going round +5 ( par/SSS 73)
Greens are still a bit variable.
If the handicap starts with a 7 at the end of the season I'll not be unhappy, just playing off 8...😕

And what do we think Frags will be (being kind!). Isn't his driver that is the nemesis at times?

He needs to stop the silly shots - on the 18th today he hit a decent drive but then his hybrid sent all of 3 inches....Backwards!
He's good enough to be a 16/17 but i think he's going to struggle a bit this year.....

I was determined not to check my bag for Saturday before tomorrow but I cracked this evening. I checked how many balls were in my bag, 20 being the answer. It's psychological but if I start with less than 10 I would stress. My new course is fairly open so anything more than two balls lost would be disappointing.

What are your minimum ball in the bag quantities?

I take 9-12. If I lost that many I'd be walking off anyway so not an issue running out of ammo

Looking at joining my first club in the coming weeks. Possibly going to opt for a social membership based on the fact I only really get to play two -three times per month!

Only heard good things about Bull bay, is it good?

A former boss was a member at Holyhead, which he said was good, but always get the feeling that Bull bay was better.

It's a bit early for Captains Day isn't it?

A bloke at ours often tells a tale of loosing 14 balls in one round at ours (he plays off 10 !!!) adding the comment that if he hadn't found two on the way round he'd have to have walked off!!! (It can be a bit tough)

I have my first comp at my new club tomorrow, Cruden Bay, after leaving Murcar. The decision to move was a tough one as I've enjoyed Murcar but a house move to within 5 mins of Cruden Bay, 35 mins from Murcar, just made sense.

Apart from a full round last April, I've not played there as a member yet but I have given the practice green some stick. I am hoping to get onto the short game area later, if only to swing a club - not played a full 18 since January.
