Hi,newmember here,first post,Looking for a new putter,always had cheap ones in the past.Because my putting has gone down hill recently,I thought a new putter would help.Any advise on best choice.I am a 18 h/cap.and a senior. ;)

You can't go wrong with anything from Ping or Oddessy really. If you feel flush, Sotty Cameron make nice ones. You really need to try a few out that take your fancy and choose from there as putters are such a personal thing. Get the right one, and it will last a life time.

Get the pro to advise on teh right length shaft though.

Welcome to the forum. Make sure you get a putter that compliments your swing path. I never realised the difference the face weighting makes. If you are straight back, straight through you'll want a face balanced putter (when you balance the shaft on your hand a few inches from the head does the face point upwards). Definitely agree with trying before you buy as the one I originally had my heart set on went everywhere but in the hole!!!

Happy shopping

Welcome to the forum.

And i would reccomend going down to AG to try some out.

never been convinced that the tiny areas in AG, DG and the like are much good for testing a putter. my cynical head says that I hole far too many putts on them.

Welcome to the forum, whatever putter you decide on make sure it suits your natural stroke, dont change your stance or posture because you like the looks of a particular club.

Viscount17, surely you are not suggesting that our fine and reputable golf retailers are designing practice astroturf greens where all angles lead to the hole? :p :p
Seriously, I agree - you don't seem to be able to miss the hole on some of them.

HI i bought a Cleveland VP2 blade a week or so ago from AG. As i mentioned on here i absoulutely love it and wished that i had bought one ages ago. Its weighted beautifully, and it was in the sale £109 down to £59. I havent seen whether or not it is still in the sale but its definately worth a look and a few putts instore.

My advice would be to have a chat with your pro and get the fundamentals looked at. I had a putting lesson and my pro changed my grip, posture and address position and it was a revelation. If you can get the hands working without too much wrist action (no puns!) working on a good line through the ball and with a good address position with your eyes over the ball then you'll be able to use any putter you desire.

You can't go wrong with Ping, TM or odyssey and there will be others telling you about Fisher, Cameron, Nike et al. At the end of the day its a personal thing so try as many as you and your budget can manage.

The reason you hole everything at AG is that the holes have perfect sharp edges, so the ball doesn't lip out. The carpet is also very flat, giving a better roll. On a proper green, the holes have more rounded edges, are often a bit old and the edges turned in, and the greens are a bit bumpier. If you can't use a putter at AG, it really isn't the one for you. I can't hole out from 2 foot in AG with a spider.
