New Player - Clubs advice please.

I'm a Mizuno fan so they'll always get my thumbs up. The beauty of these clubs is you'll find them almost anywhere. go pick them up and if you like the feel hit some, find what you like and what likes you.

So could I go into the likes of American Golf shop and have a shot of any clubs I want?

There is an American Golf shop beside a driving range near me but I didnt think you'd be able to try the clubs out??

Yes you can mate, anywhere wanting to sell you golf clubs will. If they don't allow it take your biz elsewhere!

I'd do as others have suggested and take a few lessons first, get the basics right. Without the foundations of a half decent set up and swing, the best clubs in the world won't help you.
As for clubs?
The new Ping i20's will be out in the not too distant future. Interest in these is bound to be reasonably high, and you could do no worse than keep your eye on the "for sale" section of this website because you might find that if somebody changes, a lovely set of i15's with regular AWT shafts, black dot (standard), and in decent nick might come up for sale at around the £250.00 plus delivery mark from some idiot. They are great clubs, and would last you a long, long time.

As a fairly new player in this game I'd definitely book a course of lessons and get your basics working well and consistently before parting with your money, as no doubt you'll have picked up bad habits in your swing.

I played on and off for about 4yrs before having lessons and it was pretty tough trying not to go back to my old grip cos my new grip didn't feel right.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, though dont get fooled by the new clubs will make me play better theory.

OK so it looks as though the majority are advising;

*One or two lessons over the next few months (along with still playing when the weather is decent :-) )

*Around March join a club if still as keen

*Stick with my current clubs until at least the start of the new season when there may be discounted clubs/sales on. But maybe stick with them for a few months into the season and see how its going.

Two questions - when is the 'season' beginning? Is it March or April? And do golf clubs offer discounted joining fees/monthly fees at any point - ie: is there a better time to join a club?

Most clubs subs are charged pro rata so if you join mid season you'll only pay for that period your there. Some clubs will also start your 12 months from the day you join and you will pay across 12 months.

Pick a couple of clubs have a look round and maybe ask for a free round to see if you like it then make your decision.
