Ping, Ping, Ping whats gone on? You use to produce good looking gear but these fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch!

Is 2009 gear going to be known as the ugly year for golf equipment? First Mizuno then Ping.

On a side note whoe else seen the new titleist woods? They aint good looking either! (In this months Golf World)

I think science has now replaced asthetics. They white coats that design these things don't care what they look like, they just want high M.O.I. and good aerodinamics

Agreed and I feel the same way mostly. Whilst I like good looking clubs I would play with a hammer if it made me play better.

I think you are being a touch harsh. Ping have never really made any real sexy irons in the way Mizuno or Titleist have over the years. They have always produced well made and functional clubs but nothing show stopping. I just see these as an option alongside the G10's. They look ok and probably play ok. Not for me but there will be people who love them

I liked the G5 irons they were nice, plain, simple good looking clubs these are just a bit too in your face.

How the new irons going for you? Are they "in the bag" yet, remember my open offer of coming down to my club for a knock about.

The Ping S57 irons are a thing of beauty and art. Superb looking clubs.

As for the Tour wedges, again lovely looking clubs but I guess its all down to taste.

Tried an S58 yesterday & I was smitten...

The S range is th only Iron do that looks sexy the way an AK47 does, very basic, pure military & leathal looking. But there is something about those angular looks with a few well placed spartan curves that say good things to me.

In the way the I series & G series do not.

Now all we need is an S series driver..

agree absolutely about the S58's (and the green).

I saw them and really wanted them on first sight but they are too good for my level of performance.

The sad thing is that when my game catches up to them they will no longer be around.

Buy a set and stash them away. Give you an incentive to improve. Then, by the time you get to play them, there will have been 15 newer and more desirable sets out there and you can ebay a brand new set of unhit obsolete irons for nothing.

Played with a kid yesterday who had a set of S58s, first chance I have had to have a proper look at them. I don't normally go for Pings, but these looked ok. A bit industrial, but ok.

Really in two minds as what to do. My Pro has told me he's already sold a set of S57's within 5 minutes of putting them on display. But would rather have the 58's. Perhaps I ought to see the 57's in the flesh so to speak. Well we've got a demo day coming up at our club, so may try the new irons out. But know full well I should really save buying a set as a treat for when I get another good score on the card. As at the moment it'd be just vanity that'd be ruling the day, rather than really needing a set of irons, even though there is way too much bounce on the Yonex Wedges in the set for my liking.....

oh the temptation & frustration of it all, I know I don't need to gas on a new set of clubs, but almost can't contain myself.

In my opinion the S57's look like they have taken all the best bits of the S59's and 58's, moulded them together and came up with an iron the almighty himself would play golf with!
