New Phone Scam. Be Aware

Previous ones have targeted vulnerable users with stories of virus infections, they gain the users confidence, get them to allow remote access to the PC, plant loads of rubbish and then demand money to "fix" the problem

This one is different as the user thinks they are getting a refund and are therefore more likely to be taken in

As a mobile PC engineer, i get called to lots of jobs where this type of scam has happened , and its not just little old ladies that get caught.

I answered the phone at my mother's house (she is in hospital at the mo) and got a lot of guff about "calling from Microsoft and they know that Mrs Mimms is the main user of the computer in the household"
I replied that since she is 90 and doesn't possess a PC, that is very unlikely.
Then told them to go away and stop wasting my time

To be honest, I've had some real fun at their expense and in the early days even had the poor souls ring back and complain that I've wasted their time!

Now I'm registered with the Telephone Preference Service so they shouldn't phone me, so whatever crap I give them is deserved!

I did have a chat with a charming lady recently who wanted to sell me solar panels and was reading from the script. I chatted to her for some while before posing the question "so these panels, how many can you fix to a static caravan" she was a bit taken by surprise and said "I asked if you owned your own home at the start and you said yes" I said that it was the finest caravan on the gypsy camp and she just said "are all the places in xxxxxx road caravans?" I told her that they were and she hung up.

I'm not sure if the house owners in my village would be happy with me or have lost the chance for solar energy!!

Mentally stored away for future use if you have no objection :)

I feel sorry for everyone who has been scammed. I know there are some really devious people out there. Luckily I have been fortunate and managed to be contacted by a real Nigerian Prince. He is sending me half his fortune when my £10.000 clears in his bank. I feel good. I have helped him get his money out of the country and I will soon be a multi millionaire. Win win all round.
