I think people are being a little harsh on Westwood. The oddity of the ranking system meant that Westwood usurped Tiger based on older performances and wasn't at the top of his game. Kaymer on the other hand has reached the summit on the back if a superb run of form. Thoroughly deserves to be world number one but he does struggle at Augusta. His short game is much better now but without the pressure of being top of the tree I can see Westwood winning the Masters and reclaiming top spot.

Whatever happens having 4 Europeans in the top four is sensational!
 
I agree Kaymer seems more worthy of it, not sure why, the major has something to do with it, Westwood is the only non-major winning world no.1 since the rankings began.
 
I reckon it's going ot be a tussle all season between Kaymer, Westy, Gmac and Luuuke.
Assuming Westy sharpens up that is.
The way he's played this week it wouldn't surprise me to se Luke vying for the top spot in a month or 2.
 
Kaymer has had a great couple of seasons. He must have about 5 wins in the period, did he not roll off 3 back to back. I think he is the real deal and will be in the upper standings for many years now.

well done to him and the others.
 
He may lose top spot temporarily but I doubt it.

Like many I've watched him progress over these past two years and it seams like every new high he accomplishes in the game adds another block of strength and confidence into Kaymer's belief in himself.

I think we have someone at No1 now who actually thinks he belongs there like Tiger did.

I think westwood did believe that he should be there with tiger, but he just is going through a bad patch, this is the first in a while after a year or two of very consistent play! he is really out there like tiger, hitting awe inspiring shots every round! he was just very very consistent and a very good player! i reckon he will be back soon and he will defiantly be pushing martin all the way for that top spot! sound be fun to watch!

Agree that this is a bonus but Lee was really the most consistent player for close on a year or more and the ranking then just had Tiger from his past (awesome) achievements and Mickleson in 2nd from the peaks of his game but didn't reflect that he had some howlers in there as well. Lee did deserve it as he was the best overall player and lets not forget he is only dropping to no 2 in the rankings so a win or 2 will have him back fighting for it.

Having said that Kaymer has been fantastically consistent and winning so fully deserves the new ranking at the moment and I cant see how anyone will be able to challenge if he continues this form.
 
Lee got there by being consistent, but consistently in the top 3 or 4 places. Kaymer has been more dominant both in terms of results and general aura. Lee won't be number 1 again, he's ticked that box imho

I think I am just pining for a bit of the old Tiger-style magic. Mind you, could be waiting quite a while for that!
 
Fancy Westwood to take it as a professional snub losing the #1 spot and so will come back strongly starting next week. I can see it swapping between the two for a while as they are so close in the rankings. One bad week for one will give the other a chance if they play well etc so it should spur them both on
 
I fancy Lee to regain the top spot at Augusta. Kaymer has missed the last 3 cuts at there, Westwood only finished 2nd last year because of an inspired Mickleson. However , I think Lee's days after that will remain numbered.

Kaymer will win more majors than Westwood for sure, and will spend a heck of a lot longer than him at no1. Watching him hole those clutch putts against Bubba Watson yesterday was phenominal, especially the one on the last. The flatstick and his temprament is the reason why Kaymer will win more majors than Rory.
