New irons - how much difference would you need to buy?

If it's new and shiney.... Buy it.....
If it's a last minute ebay bargain.... Buy it

On a serious note, I changed irons this year and found looking at the lifts from each manufacturer quite interesting...

Are they longer because the lofts are stronger?

Does it matter? Provided they are just as easy to hit of course!

Though is it really a good thing if you are hitting a 7 or 8 iron into the green with the (lower) flight of a 4 or 5 iron? I'd sooner have a reasonably high flight for the pin-seeking shots!

Foxholer, my irons generally fly around two irons higher trajectory wise compared with what I would deem typical flight, playing on a course which suffers with wind this can cause an issue. The cb's I have launch slightly higher as standard, couple that with a xp shaft which launches higher to only ends one way.

I have no doubt the new set up is going to help, just got to wait for them to arrive now

The s300 just doesn't suit me, they are OK in short irons but longer irons in s300 just don't work for me. I had tried the KBS \fg62 combo and it was nice but the s300 set up wouldn't have worked.

If you're committed to buying new irons, why not exhaust all options and go through a full fitting?

Been there already earlier in the year, I know my shaft specs so it's just a case of finding a head that offered the right flight, hopefully that's now sorted

OP is an excellent question.

When I moved from my TM R7 irons to my current set, I actually lost about half a club in distance.

On the flip side, my dispersion was/is much, much tighter.

Over the last 12 months, various changes made to my swing by my pro have resulted in an overall gain in distance, with the same dispersion.

If I were in the market now, it would be the same as previously. Dispersion over distance.

TPMC's transformed my game

Have been testing irons all year

AP2 , CB forged , Apex Pro , I25 and S55 and none of them gave me better results than what I get with my MC's

Superb irons

Personally the dispersion and the flight would be more important for me but any additional yardage gratefully received. What price is he asking and can you trade in what you have or will you keep those. If you keep the current irons I'm sure you could move the MC's on without too big a hit

Dispersion and flight for me too. I'd take a 5yard loss if my dispersion was better.
