Yesterday went to the Belfry and was custom fitted for new irons by Chris Chamberlain.

I decided to go because since having some lessons my swing has improved over the last few years and the plane is alot less shallow.
My current irons were CF'd based on this original swing, and were 1/2 inch long and 2* flat.
The recent open day at the Belfry persuaded me to change as all info suggested I could get better/more suitable clubs.

So I tried a few yesterday:

Titleist AP2 - the ball ballooned and had too much spin.
Nike Procombo - similar to the AP2s.
TM MBs - very good when hit well, not good on poorer strikes.
The next club tried was the TM MCs. The strike was solid, I was getting good smash factor on most shots (over 1.4) and they flew well without too much spin. In fact the final three balls when all the bit were ironed out went to 180,190 & 200 yds with very good, penetrating flights.

So I've ordered 4-PW, with DG S300's and midsize grips.
Can't wait to get them on the course once they arrive.

Thanks to Chris and everyone at the Belfry, who were helpful as usual.

Nice going Gil, I just looked them up and they look nice, did you try other shafts? what else was close in the shaft stakes?

Is that thing on the back a movable weight?

There were a variety of shafts but if I'm honest I can't tell you what they were (except that one was a rifle shaft).

I don't think the thing on the back moves, at least he didn't mention it doing.

When I was a kid I knew every head, shaft, grip etc on the market. But unfortunately I'm not too aware of what there is. I just rely on the CF'er to come up with the right combination.
Although I was told that the DG S300 was probably the correct shaft for me by Chris Ryan, who usually does my coaching, even without him looking at comparable shafts.

I guess if he knows your swing well and knows his shafts he can make a pretty good guess.

Hope they come soon (i guess a few weeks). I have a new club next to me at my desk and I am DIEING to hit the range or course tonight, the day can not go fast enough.

You just can't beat hitting a new club. Which one is the new one?

I was told upto 2 weeks for mine to arrive.

I bid on a Titleist 909H Hybrid just to see where the last bidder had got to but still WAY off the worth of the club, no one else bid so it came to me this morning. It looks like it has been hit 2 or 3 times, its mint.

Wife asked me to pick her and the baby up from her mums after work.... they are slowing me down!! :D

Did you try those with different shafts? I thought the shaft had more to do with spin rates than the head?

In fact the final three balls when all the bit were ironed out went to 180,190 & 200 yds with very good, penetrating flights.

Is that a good thing? I'd rather have all 180 than being in a 20yd range.

I'm not trying to put a downer on anything, I'm genuinely interested.

I hope you're more patient than I am, 2 weeks would kill me :D

With regard to the AP2s, I did try different shafts but, as he'd thought before trying them, the head was a bit too prone to getting the ball skywards.

As to the 20 yd gap, it's smaller than any other clubs tried, and the standard landing area was significantly smaller than my current clubs or any others tried.
I also think that the last one (200yds) may have been hit alot harder than any others. As I suddenly felt really confident with the club once all the tweaking was finished with.
