So, I’m on the look out for a new driver to replace my Titleist 915D.
Watched loads of videos and after trying the new Callaway, TaylorMade, Cobra and Ping will get a custom fit.
So has anyone treated themself to a new driver for 2026 and what was your experience

Had the 910D2, loved that driver.
Not had a new one in a while, still playing tsi2. GT range looks lovely but go for whatever fits and feels best.
All you hear these days is how good the new Ping woods are.

I went for a fitting last year, tried all last years options and was surprised to be fitted in to the Cobra DS Adapt, I really wanted the GT but it just wasn't the right fit for me.
Try them all and pick what suits you best.

Go for a fitting where you can try all the brands at the same time. Go in with an open mind.
I did that, really wanted the Titleist (couldn’t hit them out the middle for some reason), expected to get another Ping but ended up with a Qi35.
June 2025.

I currently play the GT driver and it is good for me, but I think I can get 1. more distance and 2. more forgiveness with another, possibly.

At SGGT soon and will let the stats decide. I do really fancy the new TaylorMade, but going with an open mind.

Fitting includes fairways and hybrids to get gapping spot on.

Two lads at the club have bought the TM Qi4. Both were raving about it having had a fitting in the pro shop.
I played with one of the lads yesterday ( both lads are called Dave). Dave 1 who I played with yesterday, told me Dave 2 is struggling having paid out a large wedge. Apparently he is getting a large fade with it now. Dave 1 told me he paid for a lesson yesterday to fix it having left it in the shed for the weekend coz he didn’t want to fall out with it.
Dave 1 when stood on the first tee nobbed it with the new driver and his ball finished on top of the women’s tee 25 yards in front. I did not laugh 😉 he did really catch hold of it a few times but out of 14 drives 4 were good the rest were rammel or bang average.
When I finished talking to Dave 1, before we teed off I went to the clubhouse, on my way up who did I bump into, Dave 2. He had finished his lesson and went on the range. I asked how it had gone. He said ok, but he did not look convinced. Only spoken to two lads but the feedback has not been great.

I got myself a new driver in November.

Ping G440 LST 10.5° Alta CB Blue 50 stiff.
Had a fitting at Ping HQ Lincolnshire.

My first brand new driver since 2008 when I got a Ping G10.
A few years later I ditched that for an older Cobra F Speed that I bought second hand for £25 from my club pro.

I guess that my spending on drivers has been far lower than most over the last 17 years and the new driver was funded by my accumulated pro-shop credit, anyway.
Got a few £££s a few years ago for the G10 driver.

But I am hoping the new driver will prove its worth and that it helps me build my pro-shop credit back up again.

I have been looking at sold-prices on Ebay for Cobra F Speed drivers. They seem to be going for around £40 to £50 sometimes.

This seems a bit sad really. But not surprising. I guess it's not really the pro's fault, they are consenting adults after all.
Maybe should be added to the "is fitting really worth it" thread.

On a more general note, a couple of the pods/vids I've encountered have referenced last year's TM (QI35?) being a bit rubbish for reasons that escape me. I'm sure at the time everyone was singing its praises and people were happily being fit into them for large amounts of cash. Perhaps its worth waiting a year to see how the wind is blowing on these sorts of things.

I wanted to treat myself to a new driver so went for a fitting in Early Jan.
I currently play a cobra speedzone with an R flex shaft. The fitter felt I would be better in a slightly lighter but S flex shaft. We then tried this shaft in my head and then tried many of the new heads but none out performed the speed zone.
I purchased the new shaft which I picked up on Saturday. When I picked it up the fitter let me again try the shaft and then compare it with some new heads, we tried the Qi4D, Titleist, New Cobra, Ping and Callaway Quantum. The only head that was matching my speedzone was the Callaway but even the fitter didn't think it was worth £500 for no gain.

So I now have a new shaft for my speedzone and after 27 holes of golf and some range sessions I am very happy with it.

Nobbing a driver onto the ladies Tee is a terrible mishit and will be awful regardless of the club you are holding. I don't think that's a reflection in the TMQi4. (Not a TM fan or anything, just trying to bring some balance).

Yup we realised that, it didn’t matter what he had in his hand it was a poor shot which is why I mentioned he did actually hit a few decent ones.
As it happens I was paired with Dave 2 today and after initially struggling he did manage to get a few away. What was odd was that he never got a great deal of height on his good drives, but the run one once the ball had hit the fairways was unbelievable. His driver is set at 9 degrees, but he is happy with that.
