Hello all,

I’m looking for some advice/thoughts on buying a new driver that isn’t too expensive.

The main requirements I’m trying to look within are not to spend more than £130-£140, 10-11 degrees and as I have a fairly quick swing, I’d be looking for a stiff shaft.

So far I have narrowed it down to three drivers, and like I said it would be useful if anyone had any thoughts/experiences with the drivers.

  1. Cobra s3 at £99 - http://www.americangolf.co.uk/Cobra/Cobra-S3-SN-Graph-1/208911,en_GB,pd.html

  1. Taylormade burner superfast at £109 - http://www.americangolf.co.uk/TaylorMade/TMade-Burner-SuperFast-Grp-1/197792,en_GB,pd.html

  1. Benross RIP speed at £129 - http://www.americangolf.co.uk/Benross/Benross-RIP-Speed-Graph-1/246950,en_GB,pd.html

As I’m a mid-high handicap standard, I don’t feel I’m the type of golfer that can get the most out of an adjustable driver and I notice the cobra s3 has an adjustable shaft to open/close the face. How easy is this to operate/live with?

The benross driver is the one that I find most intriguing. Personally I think it’s the best looking driver of the three, but I’d be interested in any experiences of the club. Are you getting more club for the money by not paying for the ‘brand’ on the headcover, or does the bigger names like taylormade and cobra live up to the hype?

The benross comes equipped with the RIP phenom shaft which I’ve read good reviews of, does it make it a viable option at the expense of the bigger names?

Thanks

My mate plays the Cobra s3,I've ad a few swings with it & really liked it. He just left it on standard setting. I tried the TM superfast 2.0 when it 1st came out & really didn't like it. Personnel preference tho mate. Agree it might be worth looking at 2nd hand,it'll give you more choice for your money.

As they are all available at AG, I'd suggest you head on down to your nearest store - that stocks them all - and try them out!

Be prepared to be 'sold' something else, but make sure it really is better - for you.

The S3 adjustability (it's the head, not the shaft, though the adapter is on the shaft) is pretty basic. Latest, obviously more expensive, Drivers have more and 'better' independent adjustability - though it's pretty normal to 'set and forget' anyway. There should be sufficient range to find a standard head/shaft setup.

Benross tend to use pretty good shafts imo, where TM certainly specifies a budget for the shaft supplier. Not certain about Cobra.

Good Luck.
