New club decisions

I'm splashing the cash and buying some new bats. :whoo:

Bit of a dilemma however. Can't decide whether to go 4 - PW or 5 - SW.

Why not go 4 - SW and have the lot you may say. Can't bloody afford it at the moment. Looking to buy 7 clubs then get a bit more coin organised and buy the 8th club later.

Which set up would suit me best for the time being? Thing is I have a hybrid and sand wedge already. OK the hybrid is not an iron, then again I'm not overjoyed with my sand wedge and tend to use the wedge included in my present irons.

What do I do people?

i dont use my 4 iron at all.. used to not even carry it. i only use it to keep it low when coming out the pine needles under the trees. purely personal preference. my mate hates hybrids but loves long irons

I would go 5-sw, if you already have a hybrid then just use that till you have the cash to get the 4 iron? What irons are you thinking of getting btw?

5 - pw for me and get a matched gw/sw (Vokey, Jaws etc) with the difference

my mate is having a nightmare as he is after 3-pw and most sets dont come with a 3iron !!! (or at least not in the sales where he is looking)

I would go 4-PW. I tend to find the SW on most off the shelf models is a bit chunky looking and never fill me with confidence. You don't say in the OP what you are looking for. I prefer to use a hybrid instead of a 3, go 4-PW and then buy a SW that has the right bounce for the course conditions and in particular the type of bunkers you have and maybe add a GW to fill the divide between PW and SW

I use a vokey 56 and have to say I was even using it for approaches around 80yds and around the green as I could open the face right up and probably add at least 4 degree's of loft, my LW barely got a look in, I couldnt do that with the SW that matches my irons

Do you like the idea of a specialist sand wedge or prefer a matching one generally most sets I've seen lately are 4/5 thru to PW.
With a hybrid and specialist wedge added to suit I personally prefer a gap wedge too.

Another vote for going down the 5-PW route then adding hybrids and wedges as needed later. A PW these days is basically a 9 iron anyway so you may want to consider 3 more matching wedges later on (don't tell Bobmac that I said that)

5-SW for me.

I carry driver, 3 Wood,

2 hybrids (21 and 25 degree) which cover me between 180-220.

5-pitch wedge, it then lets me have 4 wedges (pitch, approach wedge, sand iron and lob wedge).
