hey golfers,im in the market for a new driver.im playing off a 19 handicap, also have habit of slicing with "the big dog".i had a callaway ft5 with a regular shaft, draw bias,9.5 degree.any suggestions?
My suggestion would be to get something with 11 degrees or more loft. I think you're playing with too little loft and even though modern balls are designed to spin less off the driver 9.5 is too unforgiving.
Save yourself the pain and expense of buying a new model conventional driver. Buy an old square model....Callaway Fti or Wilson Spine, maybe even the Nike one.
Hitting a square one straight is a quite easy....don't ask me how, it's like black magic.
The Spine comes in 10.5 and 12. I have the 12 and although not the longest club, even on a modest swing speed 240-250 is easily obtainable without trying too hard.
It is seemingly less prone to twisting (MOI and all that jazz) and although not draw bias, is pretty tough to slice.
The advantage to getting a Spine is that they are cheap nowadays, down to around £80, if you can find the model that suits you.
I'm going the cf route, which can get you a driver to fit you (instead of you fitting the driver) for less than most of the market brands. Tried out a couple of SnakeEyes drivers today (in DG). They didn't have exactly what (I think) I'm after so I'll definitely be visiting SnakeEyes for a fit, still enough to know I like the Viper Tour Pro head better.
