My mistake

I always warm up before i play if i can. 5 wedges 10 7's 10 5's 10 drives just to loosen up and try get my tempo. I then head to the practice green for some chipping and approach play for 10 mins and then finish with some putting. When get on the course i find i dont need 3 or 4 holes to get me going (still play cack)

I try use the range twice a week to concentrate on anything i am not particuly good at. I always finish with some chip shots and some chip and runs to the short flags.

i think you might be right, there is the hunger/interest thing and also there is tiredness. a lot of players get tired during the back-nine and the game inevitably suffers.

I think it's less to do with tiredness than it is to do with concentration.

I was soloing 18 holes today, back nine first, usual peaks and troughs until I joined up with another solo on his front nine. I finished up playing 27 and with better results after we paired up.
