Del,

I'll be perfectly honest and say that at first glance I thought the shaft angle looked a bit steep coming into the ball. However, I was wrong. You're pretty much spot on, as you can see from this screenshot of you on your way to impact.

This is why I need to get up to the range with my camcorder to check my own swing. It's amazing how the eyes can deceive at full speed.

Looking good, mate.

Del,

Full swing looks good, a bit tidier and more fluid than last spring if I remember right. Why not get Kurt to look at your short game ? He may just give you the wee secret you need to get the whole game moving in a downwards direction.

Thanks, John, for taking the time to do that.

Thanks also to everyone else who's taken the time to comment. It's heartening to hear that the general consensus seems to be that I'm on the right track. I'm going to concentrate now on practicing shots from 100 yards in, as I'm not hitting enough greens to score well.

Maybe, just maybe, that elusive first handicap cut isn't too far away............. :D

Just a wee update, following my last post on this thread. Have joined the 9 hole 'Templar' short course at Swanston Golf Club, in addition to retaining my full membership at Gifford. The course is only five minutes from my house and can be got round in about 45-50 minutes. The longest hole is 143 yards and the shortest is 78 yards. I can also use the practice bunkers, designated chipping/pitching areas and putting greens, all for only £16 a month!!

Nice swing. Definite potential for low single figures if you can chip/putt. A little bit loose at the top, I'd rather you made it a bit more compact to approx this position..

Hit balls with an old glove under your left armpit and don't let it drop out until after you've hit the ball.

How long have you been playing?

Thanks, will give that a go. So, you're basically suggesting that I shorten my backswing slightly, yes?

This year will only be my third season playing.

Yep. If you keep your left arm more connected to the left pectoral it makes your swing more 'connected' and compact. It's hard/practically impossible to overswing if your left armpit is tight to the pec. Less loose at the top equals more consistent through impact. It will also help stop the 'over the top' motion that you have. In your minds eye, try and bring the club down on the same line it went up.

Thanks again for your input - will give that a go and see how I get on. Oh and thanks for your tact in calling my left 'moob' a pectoral! :D :D :D

When one of your mates tell you that the club is pointing left of the target at the top, tell 'em to feck off ;)

OR you could say that you're attempting to stop short of parallel and that's what happens :)
