I have been playing for several years on and off an have played regularly this year on a tight lies, diffcult, links type course. I have been slicing my long irons& hooking my driver so thought I'd have a lesson with the local pro. When I got to the driving range he was running late so I stood in the next bay and hit some balls with my 3 iron off the mat. Every bleeding one went long and straight !! He asked me what I played off and I said 24 and he laughed as he said he hasn't seen 6 handicappers hit the ball so sweet.

Just typical that on the day I go for a lesson my long irons were great !!

The only adjustment he made was with my grip which felt awkward for a while. He got me to use my driver and he said I was coming over the top and out to in. The woosh sound the club makes should be after the ball and not before as I was releasing the club head to early and therefore lacking some distance.

Got to keep practicing what he said and go see him a few more times. £50 for 4 x 1 hour lessons is good I thought.

Starting out in Golf after a 15 year gap, just got all my gear, just rang and booked some lessons with out local golf pro, i'm off down the range tomorrow to hit some balls and see what happens, hook slice, top etc etc etc it'll be there tomorrow haha hoping after 5-6 lessons i can just hit one straight.....

I'd just come on to mention my first lesson, sounds like ours were very similar!

Went to see the pro at the range near my work, who has been working on one of my playing partners. He's the most technical, anal golfer walking, which is fun to listen to when he's off 22! saying that, when he shuts up I can see a big improvement in technique over the last 2 months, so I popped down on Monday. I've played on and off for years but never had a lesson.

45 minutes later I've gone from piercing straight or fade/slice to gorgeous curving draws, swinging a third slower but middling everything. I thought I was Faldo!!

THEN, went today to the range after work to practice what he was telling me. Oh bugger! what's he done to me!!!! I am aching everywhere already, it's like a different game. Seem to be topping more shots than normal but put that down to wanting to watch the ball flight. Only strange feeling is I feel like I'm only hitting about 75% of the power I was, yet getting the same distance.

I reckon there's something in this doing it properly lark.... :D
