Finally after half a dozen lessons and the same number of twighlight nines i am playing my first full game on Sunday ....tee off 10.58. I can not wait :D can everyone remember their first 18?

Not really, probably scored about 120 with "friendly" golf rules as thats the standard I played to when I was a kid. Then I stopped for 7 years :D

On a side note do you know any good courses near Chelmsford? I have a job interview locally and I would like to join a club in the area if it all works out well.

If it does maybe we could meet up for a game :D

Hi ScienceBoy,

My course is a tight 9 hole course, across the road is Channels which is a lovely course. Loads of hills and water!

There are a few others dotted around to. Let me know when you're coming down and I'll see if I'm about. There's a couple of us around the area.

On the subject of my first 18, it usually feels like it every time I step onto the first!

1st 18 was at Panshanger Golf course back in Feb I think with Viscount17, went round in about 136, it battered me, blew a gale and feet were killing... loved it :)

My first 18 was at my golf club with my father in law-to-be in May. Played 9 other clubs since but none lived up to my course I now play, so joined it around July time.

can everyone remember their first 18?

I can. Muni in London called Brent Valley. I was as nervous as anything. You have to pop a ball in a chute,(sp?) and when yours is next, you're on!

50 yard thin/slice straight into a big tree. :o

Yeah, It was a 9 holer you play twice. Had practiced on the range for ages first!

Never ever shot over the 100 mark, but didn't ever set the course on fire.

Sandfields Golf club/driving range nr Chester. A great little place to learn the game and for a muni, top greens!

Hainault Forest in 1984

Very busy muni course on the eastern end of the Underground; 2 good 18 hole tracks, quite hilly with some great holes.

Took me a 10 minute walk to bus stop, 15 min bus ride, 45 mins to teh end of the underground, 15 mins bus ride, 15 mins walk up the hill, pay your money into teh cashier window, and then get in the queue

124 shots

I am so looking forward to it :D, but already i feel a bit of tension about my first shot, especially as over the range tonight I only managed a handful of half decent shots!!

First full round was at Silverknowes Golf Course in Edinburgh circa 1971. Managed to shoot 129 for my first round. The 18th was a monster of just over 600yds, at that time the longest par5 in the Edinburgh area.

Those were the days :D

Fragger started playing well before me and he took me to Wexham Park near Slough for my first 18, must have been '90/91
Took 139 shots.

2nd 18 was 3 months and several 9-holers later. Shot 110
3rd was 3 months and several 9holers later Shot 105
Next time out shot 99 and never back over 100 until a few years back

My first game was when we had no Sunday cricket match and 3 others were playing and asked me to join them. I said I did not play and had no clubs so some one lent me some. They were much too small and blades.
I bought 3 new balls - Gratex - the cheapest and they were solid. I topped the first drive and the ball was cut in half. The second ball went the same way when I topped and iron for my eighth shot. I took 13 on the first. The last ball survived to hole 10 when I lost it so had to run to the shop to buy more.

I finished with 169. Not very impressive is it. It was 30 years ago so it gets better with the passing of time.

I played Wexham as one of my first dozen (or so) 18 holers. Certainly well over 100 in those days. Also around '92/93

Other courses included Pinner Hill, Batchwood (St Albans) and West Middlesex on Public days.

I LOVED golf back then. MORE than now, for sure. :)

Last October @ Cambridge Meridian using a set of sticks I bought from a medic on the american airbase in Lakenheath. Shot 108 and can nearly remember every shot. Played there 3/4 times since and not bettered my score there...!!!
