Screwback
Tour Rookie
So not to highjack Aztecs thread i will do my own, cant promise the write up will be as good but i will give it a go.
Well my day started with me up and raring to go. I caught the 6.29 train from Berwick to Londons kings X which took the best part of 4 hours after that i jumped aboard the London underground, now for someone from my neck of the woods the concept of a train underground took a bit of getting used to. However a quick unsheduled train change at hounslow sped my journey up instead of slowing me down.
I arrived at Heathrow airport and was immediately lost but a quick call from Mike i was soon standing with him and steve. 5 mins later we where away to wentworth.
On arrival at Wentworth we went into this sparkling looking complex and i met Jonathon (aztecs) for the first time along with the other guys from GM we then went in and met all the Talormade guys and of course Paul McGinley.
Watching a tour pro hit balls is simply amazing and i was extremely taking aback by just home much these guys use their stats to improve how they play the game and how effectively they use them.
After watching the Taylormade guys do their presentation of the driver and they explained why the white head is not a gimmick and it is there for a reason (i have to add i was still not conviced at this point that i wasn't a gimmick, but shh dont tell). We then watched paul hit the driver for the first time, even after having sean the tour technician change it a 3 or four times he still said it would take a bit of changing to get it to his spec, there is none of this pick it up of the shelf and bat it carry on.
Anyway a bit of lunch and onto my fitting (i will leave steve and aztecs fittings out). I got the driver looked down and immediately liked the look of it. I started hitting balls with the 9 degree model with stiff shaft it was going ok but not amazing. so we opened the face a little using one of the three changeable features on the club and it started getting better. We then went to the 10.5 driver and after sean and adrian explaining a few trade secrets about clubs we decided that i would probably need a slightly heavier shaft than standard. The one thing that impressed me with the driver was how the black face against the white head made it easy to see where you hit the ball definately not a gimmick.
The fitting totally amazed me i had a ball speed of 157.8 which was 4 MPH quicker than pauls but i had a impact degree of 10 and he said if i could get that up it would improve my distance. A bit of highlight for me was after the r11 fitting sean asked me if i would like a hit with pauls driver which was unreal to stand and hit a tour pros club and yes managed not to top it .
Once we had finished we watched paul hit somemore shots and got to basically just have a chat with him a very down to earth and genuine bloke as where the rest of the Taylormade team.
As always GM excelled themselves another truly amazing day for us forumers, to Aztecs and SteveK great to meet you really enjoyed your company.
I hope i have not missed anything out and Thanks to mike for having us down.
