My dad has been threatening to take up golf for a few months now so I decided to buy him a lesson for his birthday.
He has played a few rounds before but never really got in to it.
He had his lesson and now at the ripe old age of 53 he has got the bug big time and him and his mate have booked a block of 6 more lessons for the two of them!
I think its great and we now have a common interest which we can talk about. Looking forward to a few father/son duels out on the course in the future!
Makes me love golf even more!! :)

That's terrific.

My son (aged 38) is an occasional golfer (no handicap) and it’s great when we get together for a round. Slight problem is that he is very competitive and when we play his notional handicap changes according to how the match has progressed. I start off conceding 6 strokes and end up conceding however many it takes for him to win.

Spending more time with my brother and dad was one of the main reasons I got into golf.

Seeing my dad away from the house, with his mates and being able to join in the banter has been great. He had a heart attack 2 years ago and that made me wake up and see just how much I lacked contact with him. Despite following his career footsteps and going into nursing at the ripe old age of 26 work (especially nursing) isn't something to talk about over a beer.

Being asked to join his fourball when they where a man down is probably one of the biggest pats on the back I could have asked for. I know he could have asked plenty of others.

All I can say is enjoy it. The chats are going to be fun!

I'd love to get my dad and brothers into golf. Dad is into his wildlife though, so spends most of his time out in the middle of nowhere with a camera for company, and my brothers are still into their football. Hoping they'll one day see the light as I think it would awesome banter. A man can dream!!

I got my old man playing about 2 years ago as he had an irregular heart beat and the Dr advised excercise but nothing too strenuous, what can I say now he has 8 or 9 of his friends playing too. Between me and my golfing friends he and his we have a big group who all love the game and everyone can always find someone to play a round with!
Over competetive dad syndrome is his only downfall ha!

I'm really hoping my dad gets back to playing at some point. He used to play regularly but buying a restaurant then hotel took over my parents life and he's hardly played in the last 7 or 8 years. Now I've rekindled my love, he keeps saying he wants to get back into it so he can go around with me again.
