Murray V Verdasco

Re: Murray needs a Miracle....

Ah yes, I did see that stat pop up when I was watching (on mute)...must have been what they were on about!

It's not so much the amount, which is huge, but the variation - and on both wings! Not something that is particularly obvious on TV.

He's the Bubba Watson of Tennis as far as spin goes. Murray now faces the Bubba Watson of speed on Friday!

Fair play to both players. Verdasco hits a mean ball and second serve aces are rare beasts. Murray showed why he is now #2 in the world by fighting back and then sealing the deal in the last, tense set.

Great to see the crowd in the court and on the hill behind him. Polish opponent on Friday will be no walkover and if Del Potro stays fit and plays his best he is one of the few players who can trouble Djokovic.

All this talk about is Murray Scottish/British is a load of crap, really. Wimbledon is Englishness personified in the best possible sense and I love it for that. It wouldn't matter to me if Murray was English, Welsh, N. Irish or Scottish.

The Wimbledon tournament and Murray are both British and both things to be proud of.

This is a good point. I would guess that the majority of Scots watch the displays of passion, excitment and patriotism displayed by Wimbledon crowds with a deal of amusement, some disdain and a lot of forehead slapping. But you know - in many ways it is great - and great that a large crowd can feel so much togetherness. So come on - let's dump the cynicism - and embrace the joy and fun.

C'mon Andy - you ain't Tim :)

And I'm quite happy for Andy to be British. We Scots and all know who he REALLY is

Re: Murray needs a Miracle....

Murray did brilliantly to overcome Verdasco with the way he played. Verdasco was red hot & playing very well hitting the ball so hard and accurate it was untrue.

Murray looked seriously down and out and the body language wasn't great but the way he turned it around shows hes not the sulking little bugger that many people make him out to be.

Re: Murray needs a Miracle....

Another cool Murray stat - he becomes only the 5th player (in the modern era?) to reach 5 consecutive Wimbledon Men's semi-finals (2009-2013), the others being Federer, Borg, McEnroe and Edberg. Pretty good company if you ask me.

The others listed have all won it though!
