Well today I got to get out finally and used my nice new mpt10 wedges. These were new for Christmas and was not unwrapped and put in my bag until late last night.

Today was my first outing obviously and I can only say that I'm not to pleased (polite way of saying it) at the quality of the finish on the satin black wedges. After 18 holes and an estimated 20 shots between both wedges, they now look over a year old.

The black covering showed signs of wear after 3 pitch shots on the 52, all of which had been played from lush fairways using a dx3 (soft 3 piece) ball.

Now I didnt expect the black covering to be unmarkable, but I expected at-least 6 months out of them before they showed signs of wear, not 3 shots. It's almost as if the covering is just a sales decoration?

Has anyone else here got the mpt10 in satin black, and how did they find the covering on theirs?

Never really seen the benefit of any of these finishes which I know doesn't really help you. I would have thought the darker the finish the more any shot will show up. I looked at a TM Burner 2.0 recently which has a darker finish and that has given way. The guy bought them from new on release (so I guess no more than two months) and they certainly look older. I'd have a look and see what the Mizuno website says and maybe drop customer services a line. Not sure if you'd get any joy from returning them to the store/pro as they will undoubtedly (and maybe rightly) say it is normal wear and tear

If it's designed to come off surely it's a waste being there. Will drop mizzy a email as I don't see 18 holes as justified wear and tear, they were being carried too so it's not even trolley bag clatter.

I'd agree with that. The MPT11 black satin finish arent even black, more a greyish colour.Possibly they realised the black paint was an issue and changed it.

nice sticks, though, and handy for avoiding glare ( not a problem right now)

I've got one. got it in september and used it for the last few comps. i love it, groves are great, get a lot of spin much more than the old black ox wedge i was using. Finnish wore off a bit, but a got mine to use not to just look at :D. Might even get another to replace my gap wedge if i can still get hold of one. MPT10 has the old groves and the MPT11 the new ones, so not as much spin.

Patrick, I'm all for using a stick for it's function, it's just a bit if a crapper when a club has played 4 shots (58*) and it looks older than my 3 year old vokey

corrct i bought the oil can finish knowing full well it will look like a 3 year old club withing days of using it should have just bought the normal ones if you were that bothered

Don't know anything about that to be honest. Vokey are cast and mizuno forged so should be softer. not that, that has anything to do with it. :p

From the reviews I've read and comparisions of MPT10 vs. MPT11, the whole old vs. new groove thing is a bit of a moot point. The MPT11's, supposedly, generate as much spin due to the way their quad cut grooves are designed.

The ones that are fitted with the new DG Spinner shaft (not available in Europe due to the materials used to make it not being favourable to our weather conditions) are supposed to be even better, especially for the low flight "bounce-and-check" pitch shots.

Mine both came with a sticker on the shaft that advised the finish would come off and that the club would rust. Didn't yours? It is a shame though as the black finish does look superb.

I have new Vokey satin finished wedges, and they rust like mad. I do clean them after every round, but if i had wanted them to rust would have got the oil can ones. Fortunately they are so sweet i can put up with them looking old. :D

Will that be the long black sticker I removed without reading
