Went to direct golf, cambridge, after work tonight to go and hit a few balls.. whilst having my normal pre range session mooch around the shop I thought I'd have a go with the MP59's.. I was fitted 6 months back for JPX Pro's and asked if I could try them along side.. I also had my MX950's with me.

Was asked what I was fitted with previously and me matched it, so Project X 5.5 shaft with Std Loft/Lie.. he left me to it so i started with the JPX 800's and was hitting fairly well considering i hadnt warmed up, a couple of miss hits but no biggys.. nice ball flight and decent distance he came back and saw me hitting some good shots, then we went to the MP59's, I was a little nervous as I've tried other expensive golf clubs with the "your handicap isnt good enough for these" tag, but I was made to feel at ease by the young lad helping me.

So off I went, MP59's, i really wanted to love them and they didnt disappoint! first shot with the chap watching, boom straight as a die down the middle with more carry. second shot was the same and they were all on target. Felt really good with the shaft as well...

I think I know what I'm buying if I get my bonus!

They are a gorgeous and quite forgiving club....

If it wasnt for the fact Ive only had the 53's for a few months id get some too.

I keep hearing a lot of love for the Mizzy range but apart from the JPX 800 pro I have never really managed to do them justice. It might be a psychological thing about forged clubs getting less distance on off centre hits so I tried too hard but I never seem to be consistent with them. That said, Mizzy sure know how to make sexy looking clubs.

Where did you get that impression from? Because it's ****** - for same shaped clubs. Try hitting some MX23s or MX25s.

MP59's are nice, they are very engineered even to produce a certain sound from the club, large toe as well, personally I preferred the MP69's

Have to say I preferred the 58's to the 59's looks wise
59's may be a bit more forgiving but the Titanium insert looks harsh compared to the 58's.

Don’t agree with you there. The 58 were the ugliest clubs I think ive ever seen from Mizuno. With the 59 they have addressed the look and the 59 are much nicer. I’ll stick with my 62 though for now.;)

I agree with this. The 58's were a nice club when compared to all golf clubs, but compared to other Mizuno's they're low on the list of good lookers. Too "bulgy" on the back. I hated the 59's when I saw the 1st pictures...then I saw one in the flesh....then I hit one....and now I would sell a kidney for a set.

That said, I'm loving my 57's at the mo. Understated but still a great looker. There's an argument that they're not forgiving enough for my handicap, but whatever. I feel like I get a consistent enough strike from them....I'm sure a set of 59's would help my game though :D

Agree that the pictures do not do them justice. They are great looking clubs. Much better than the 58's. The problem would be choosing between them and the MP63's. If only I was :(. Oh well I can dream.

what does this mean exactly?

Basically Mizuno 'engineered' the club until it made a certain sound from the clubface which they feel is important to players. A bit like a car company will 'engineer' a door shutting to make a more pleasing sound even though it shuts perfectly well with a basic clunk they engineer a quality and more solid sound.

Look at that brilliant Golf Car advert where the salesman is shutting the door on a different car for a young girl purchaser and saying "if you listen carefully it sounds like a Golf"

57s are ugly, 58s are lovely and 59s are stunning. Again I agree that my first impression of the 59s was not good but I love them now.I have an MP 58 that I use to practice in my net, it is visably a more compact head than my 53s but it is an awesome club. I don't hit it out of the toe much as I find it easier to know where the club head is as its smaller. Clearly that is a very simulated experience but I do like the 58 more than my 53s. I'll be sticking with the 53s though, they feel like GI clubs after practicing with the 58.69s for me one day!!

WTF? I know I'm biased, but I fail to see how the MP58's are lovely if you find the 57's ugly. Time for specsavers? ;)
