I have never had any desire for a noisy unreliable motor that could break down or kill you at any moment.

Instead, I would happily take one of these:

http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/a6/s6-saloon.html

it doesn't show any originality, it looks like any of a dozen other cars - could be a re-badged Skoda for all I know. still I suppose they all use the same design software.

Never claimed much originality, but have always favoured a Q car rather than a shouty hairy chested car. Could be persuaded into as Aston, though, perhaps. But never a car named after a bloke called Trevor.

Aston? now you're talking - though according to Clarkson style over substance? not sure why though.

I have to pass an Aston garage every time I take HID shopping - one day I won't pass

Is that because your tongue is stuck to the window?

I must be having a mid life crisis as I've been looking at Mazda RX8's coupe's on the internet....I've even arranged a test drive for Friday in a limited edition Kuro.

Why I want to give up the luxury and comfort of my E-class I can't quite work out.......my only worry is getting my golf clubs in the boot...would probably have to stick the trolley in the back seats. Also would have to amputate any back seat passengers below the knee. :D

I used to have an RX8. I loved the thing but there are some bad points. You will average about 19mpg no matter how you drive it. On a long motorway run you may get this up to about 20.5 mpg. The thing drinks oil. In slippery conditions it is a nightmare.
Having pointed out the bad I should also mention the nicest short shift gear box of any car I've driven and it does have reasonable room for 4, and a good Bose stereo system.
