well its been roughly 18 mnths since i had my crash at knockhill and ultimately 18 mnths since i've had a bike and been out and about on a bike......and its safe to say the bug is back and i'm dying to get back out there and have some fun.

i start work on the 20th at balfron and it got me thinking that a wee commuter bike would be ideal, easy to maintain and good on fuel...great in the traffic aswell and with all the road works going on just now it would be ideal.

i had a wee shot of a yamaha r1 last year in the summer and it was spot on,felt very fast because it had been so long but i imagine when i have the money i'll sort myself out with a lovely cbr600rr or zx6r thats been well set up for the track and get it mot'd aswell.

i did my cbt back in 2007 and bought a brand new hyosung gt125r(crap),2mnths later i had my full bike licence and had a shot of a kawasaki zx7r,after this i had to get myself a faster bike.it was amazing the performance.i took it to 130 and was blown away.i then bought a cbx 550 which was a terrible bike,i only had it a week before getting rid of it.next was a honda vfr400 nc30,this wee bike was great and brilliant for learning how to ride fast and have lots of fun.it was still restricted so it would do a genuine 116 before the limiter would kick in.

i then got a cbr400 nc23 to do up and put back on the road but i never got round to it and after some incidents i got rid of all 3 bikes at the time, the cbr400,vfr400 and the 125.i then bought the kawasaki zx9r c model in feb 2009 and had lots of fun over the next 19 mnths with it.

here's a few pics of the nc30,there were taken just before i sold the bike with a full 12 mnths mot and tax.i had replaced a few things and it was fitted with new tyres also.i only sold it for £650 as i was desperate for the cash, definately sad to see it go.

here's a few of the 9,i loved this bike.it was very quick producing 136hp at the rear wheel.it was running a full akra but for the track it wasn't great due to crap suspension and brakes.it was a constant struggle on track trying to keep it under control and near enough every corner the back end would be skipping about.still lots of fun though.

I am an ex biker.. brief history:

80's family holiday every year was IOM TT as dad used to race sidecars. (i still think he is stupid!!, he was the passenger too!)

aged 4 was my first bike, a PW50, then all sorts of MX bikes with a wee bit of racing, nothing too serious though.
Aged 16, a Kawasaki AE50! tuned etc went about 55mph!! then a KMX125 at 17 for a bit, Then i bought a ZXR750! At 17!! rode that for a year, bought a GSXR600 then got banned for dangerous driving (100mph+ wheelie past el plod) so the Gixxer was stripped and raced for 4 years in the UK endurance series. best finish was 5th overall at Oulton park in a 6 hour race (overall winning team had Bruce Anstey in it!)

got my licence back in 2002, but soon realised i was still an idiot on bikes, so dont own one anymore. If i did there are 2 outcomes, dead or prison.

Bikes are in my family blood though. Mum rides a ZX6 (aged 60!) Dad has a Fazer, Both of my brothers used to race and my Bro is deputy Ed of a bike magazine. (not IPC owned! although he did used to work for one that was!)

I do really miss it, but still cant trust my self. so dont do it.. stay safe! keep it rubber side down!

PS. might trawl photobucket later for some pics!! just to remember the good old days!!

Oh and mum and dad run a guided motorcycle tours of SW france business if you are interested! www.bikers-lot.com

I'm an ex mx'er and now coming away from running my own company find myself thinking more about a road bike if nothing more than a quick way to get around in town as its looking more like that's where I'll be working ...... Must resist!

Could you not change out of 2nd gear @ 130 Wull?

Had the 1st Fuel Injection Deltabox R6 when it came out in 03. Stunning bike, stable but so easy to throw about.

Sold it in 05 after my m8 died in an accident in Inveraray.

Very tempted to get another. Yamaha 50th Anniversary model looks tempting.

You going to the NW200 Wull?

Another ex-biker here. Passed my test in 1997 and bought a Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat, had a low speed off on that with minimal damage to the bike and no damage to me. In 1999 I swapped that for a Suzuki GSXR1000 when they first came out and OMG! did I LOVE that bike. However, that really was a case of all the gear no idea because it was far too good a bike for my inexperienced ability, but try telling me that at the time.

In 2001 I had what I would call a medium level accident when I went doen the side of an oncoming car when exiting a bend. It could have been much much worse if I had been one foot further right an hit the front of it. After getting the bike and a bone in my foot mended I tried to ride again but had lost all confidence, so I sold it. I'm not embarrassed to say that I shed a few tears that day.

My plan was to wait a couple of years and then get another more 'sensible' bike, but then my children started to appear, so that put paid to my plan.

Maybe again one day, but not for the foreseeable future. :(

Would love to get back into it (good weather only mind). First bike learnt on a 250cc BSA. Then a Royal Enfield 500cc. Then the best of the lot. A Vincent Black Shadow(showing my age eh). If I did get a bike would have to be a classic British bike. No interest in the modern sewing machines sorry.

haha,no i ran out of road and traffic was in the way.managed some good 170+ mph plus on that stretch though.
i have a few vids on youtube of how i ride especially on my commute to work but i'm not sure if i'll be allowed to post them on here.

i'll post this one anyway,it was a compilation i made which shows the good performance and acceleration of the 9r.

p.s this is my friend riding the bike....

Not bad Wull. Have yo u done the Police Bikesafe? Thats an eye opener lol. Those guys are seriously good.

Told me to ride as I would without him haha, pleasure. He even told an unmarked car to leave me as I slightly left him behind lol

Police cost cutting might have forced them to stop but worth asking about.

wull, im just waiting for the " thats not the speed limit comments "

In all seriousness this is why i have never got a big sports bike, id be too tempted.

Snap - only mine was 20 years earlier!! - My dad was also the nutter throwing himself over the side of the back to keep the traction down - utter madness.

Parents used to own a motorcylce shop so knew a few people who had fatal accidents and for that reason I never had one on the road, I am bad enough in the car. my licence (or my life) would not survive a decent road bike. Used to have CBR 250 that used to ride around 3 sisters and also on Burtonwood airbase and had a MX that used to go to southport and various off road areas.

Do sometimes think about getting a track bike, but cant justify the expense

I love my Ducati's.
My wife rides a Ducati Monster 696.
I have ridden road bikes for 30 years & have owned the following.

Honda CB650
Honda CBR 1000
Honda FireBlade 900RR (have owned 3x of these)
Honda CBR 600
Kawasaki ZRX 1100
Triumph Speed Triple 1050
+ quite a few I have forgotten about.

I have met some great people & been to some brilliant places / events during my bike riding years.

Why? Nothing dangerous in Wull's riding!

You dont buy a bike to stick to limits especially not a ZX9r.

Made me tingle watching that.

Always wanted a bike, but would never trust myself on one. I knew a fair few work colleagues that have had major off's and two that permanently use walking sticks :(.

Done a few track days in a car and thats my limit.

Had bikes from 78-2003...my last one was a Ninja ZX7R........got rid of it after I took it for its MOT and the guy said "do you realize you have only done 3 miles since last years MOT?", (garage was 1 1/2 miles away).

I'd lost the passion after my best mate was killed on his Ninja.

My brother was big into bikes as well. He plays sax with the Po Boys, (Jamie Witham was the drummer). They used to play at all the Superbike meets getting 10,000 crowds......They also went all the way to Australia to play at Troy Corsers wedding and ended up playing only one song........:o

Don't really miss it any more but they were great days.

Get a lid and go pillion. That'll change your mind.

Next time you'll be riding lol

My dad bought me a Honda 50 club when I was 16 and haven't looked back since, left school and was a telegram boy riding 125/175 BSA Bantams and progressed via a Lambretta LI 150 (I know!!), Tribsa 500 to a 650 Bonnie. Joined the RAF and gave up bikes for a few years but got back with a couple of Kwaka's, 550 and 750. Then got into the cruising scene and bought a Virago 1100, sold it 4 years ago and bought a new Yamaha Raider 1900cc, Changed pipes, put a 240 on the back and got a custom paint job. Not available in Europe so had to inport it from the USA, only about 20 of them here, taking it to rallies in Belgium,Denmark,Sweden and USA this year.003.jpg
