Since when did it becaome the law that all motorcycles had to overtake their lane in the middle of yours (the on coming lane) forcing you to either stop, slow or deviate from your own path? Seems to be so commonplace now that "filtering" through their lane in the traffic is so time consuming.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who see's it.

About the same time as it became law that the cagers have to drive as close to the white line, islands or any other road furniture as possible to prevent motorcycles making progress, preferably with their iPod or phone plugged into their ear that they can't hear you and being so busy on their phone that they can't check their mirrors either.

And going round traffic islands on the wrong side of the road?
But from another point of view, why should 1 road tax paying group expect to be able to go faster than another road tax paying group?

Because they're much smaller and go much faster? Why do you have a problem with someone going faster than you if they're able to do it safely?

I dont have a problem with motorcycles going faster , but it's the level of faster I have a problem with. 3 lanes of slow or stationary traffic on a main road or motorway and a motorcycle filtering between lanes at least 30mph over what everyone else is doing? I also have a problem with motorcycles using the wrong side of the road as their private lane when there is traffic coming the opposite way.

It's why a lot of them die.

Aren't they simply overtaking, if there's no central reservation white lines or signs not to overtake, what are they doing wrong, unless oncoming vehicles are having to swerve away from them, then yes, that's dangerous.

Darwin's principle applies!

Just look after your own 'safety zone', though be aware of potential hazards, and let the motorcyclists get on with their riding! Most are simply taking advantage of the benefits that their mode of transport provides - though I did see a complete idiot stuck to the rear bumper of the car ahead yesterday!

There are road markings and traffic going the opposite way to them.....that's the point of my thread, and yes the oncomming traffic has to alter it's path or come into contact physically with the bike.

Obviously it would be a damned good reason, but I am talkign what would appear to be "sensible" riders......not your weekend warrior out on his alphabet bike.
I have ridden Motorcycles in the past but used to try and enjoy the ride rather than needing to overtake anything in front. Take your position in the road like a car , keep your distance and overtake only when safe and necessary.

Something I do find very annoying is where cars approaching in the opposite direction feel it's OK to pull out around bicycles directly into the path of oncoming vehicles rather than waiting for a clear road.

And what do these road markings actually mean then?

No overtaking, they can also be the dotted central demarcation lines. But I wasnt aware the road laws had changed for motorcycles to ride 4 ft on the "wrong side" of the road. It's not all motorcyclists, but it does seem an increasing number...a bit like heard mentallity.

If you think every, or any, white line down the centre of the road (with the possible exception of a double white line system with a solid line against you) means no overtaking then it sounds like you're as much of the problem as the motorcyclists you are complying about.

On a slightly different subject (but still moaning about motorbikes), what is it with some of them (mopeds included) and their excessive noises. I think BiM has explained before it's so they are noticeable by cars, which I get to an extent, but living above a roundabout, they noise so so many of them make is insane. I thought there was a limit to noise pollution, I'm guessing it's not enforced at all! Louder than 99.9% of cars that go past!

Absolutely agree ........morons.

No, it's not that I'm commenting on the act of the motorcycle overtaking (although going round the wrong side of an island isn't legal) it's more the fact of how much road they take up of the oncomming traffic's lane.
But never mind, I can see I'm obviously wrong and at fault.
