with the end of the season approaching, and the sale events popping up across the country, I was going to look at some new irons (been using old SH set a moment) and a new forgiving driver.

Can anyone recommend a good, forgiving driver that will bring me more confidence on the tee? I realise that you can't truly know if a club is good for you until you try, but with there being so many clubs about I need to shorten the list.

Looking for a driver less than £200 pref.

Cheers

James

What's wrong with you current driver?

I have the Superfast fairway woods and find them excellent.

I'd be tempted to invest in a few lessons and save the rest.

shaft too long, and head too light. I have had a few lessons and I'm just not happy. Want to try something different, as it is my driver that is really letting my scores down at the moment.

Did you not think that when you tried it (You did try it before you brought it???)

I know a site offering good prices on Taylormades R9 and Supertri Models.

They also have penty of other manufacturers to choose from, but I would advocate hitting a driver, on a range so you can see the ball flight, before buying it.

I have yet to hit any of my drivers before buying them.

How do you go about choosing one?

Did you look at my signature? ;)

Mostly on what I read, advertising does work :D

If you have a slice or fade I would check out Cobra S2 offset. You can pick it up brand new for under £90 or if you want the newer model S3 offset for £160.
I use the S2 and it is unreal off the tee. Also worth checking out the Ping K15

The point about advertising is very true.

The only driver I didn't hit on the range is my current R9. I still went to AG just to get an feel for it and hit it into the net to see how it felt in the swing.

THEN went and brought it online at a fraction of AG's price :D

I have only hit a driver in the net at AG before buying, and the computer was telling me i was hitting it 300 yard with no slice!!! hahaha

When i bought my superfast I was new to golf and wasn't quite sure what I liked / didn't like. but now I am starting to get an idea.

I am considering going to Lincoln Direct Golf at the end of October to try some clubs out on their driving range.

does anyone know of anywhere else I could go to try out some clubs on a peroper driving range in yorkshire?

I had a try of my brother in laws new Ping G15 the other day and its just about the easiest driver I've ever hit and it went miles too

Up until fairly recently I was playing the TaylorMade R7 Draw driver. Which to be honest was not half bad. I wanted a bit more out of my clubs and switched Irons to Titleist AP1 (from TM RAC OS) and after a bit of testing opted for the Callaway Diablo Octane Black driver. extra 10-15 yards distance and a much more penetrating ball flight - much more manageable in wind. Also its really forgiving.

Could not recommend it highly enough.

Ping G20 all day long, the best driver i have used by far. Granted its slightly over budget but with a trade in price on your current driver it should come under budget.
