Evenin' all (as Dixon of Dock Green used to say),
It's that time of the month when I seek to garner forumers' opinions about all things golf.
This month it's infuriating scenarios and the number of competitive rounds you're likely to play this season that I'm interested in.
Thanks for both voting and no doubt adding one or two personal comments at least on the 'anguish' question!

Sky marks and three putts are frustrating, but the slow play thing really gets to me. I have been working on it a bit though and it doesn't screw up my round like it used to. Still irritating though!

Probably not more than 5-10 comp rounds this year - comps are aon wednesdays and it's become a busy day.
The slow 4-ball from Hell - we must get them at our place...

I can live with slow play, just be patient and pace yourself;
I can get over the odd 3 putt (I have enough to make it a normal event);
I don't mind a a bit of rain and if the course is closed I'll have a coffee and watch TV in the bar,
and I would never spend £300 on a driver anyway but...
if I've done all the hard work to grind out a score or had one of those days where the putts drop from everywhere and then I mess up within sight of home, that lives with me for weeks...months...years :( :( :(

My medal partner yesterday stood +1 Gross on the 18th tee, despite my best efforts to put him off with my back 9 collapse.

He Double Bogey'ed the last, but seemed quite philosophical about it, whereas inside he must have been seething !

I can put up with all of the above if I can get my golf fix... the course closed sign is the one for me!

I also plan to play as many competitions as I can this year but at £4 a pop at least its not always affordable. I am at least in profit this year, I think I just about broke even with pro shop vouchers last year in the end.

Re: Monthly poll time: infuriating scenarios + number of handicap roun

Slow play doesn't really bother me,its a slight pain but wouldn't let it get to me enough to affect my golf. A collapse on the home stretch would be bad but 3 putting from 6ft would keep me awake for days. I dont have many 3 putts from any distance so from 6ft would be an utter disaster.

Could be worse,my mate 3 putted from about 18inches on the 18th a couple of weeks ago to leave with a chip and 2 putts to win by 1 hole. His first putt was from about 20ft,stopped 18 inches short,i tell him to "tap it in for the win mate" and walk over to my ball just off the green, turn back round and he's got his head in his hands.

hoping to play 20-30 competitive rounds, didnt read past the slow play option!!!!

Slow play gets my back right up, what's worse is when it's your four ball is that slow and the others in your group make no effort to speed up. This makes me friggin wild

I put the fourball from hell. It is one thing saying be patient, etc but in reality when you are standing over every shot for an eternity and there isn't a hope of being called through it sucks every ounce of tempo and timing out of the game. I can even put up with course closed signs as I'd just hit a range to get a golf fix

The most annying thing for me is when you have addressed the ball when someone shouts FORE or you hear a ball being hit or landing. You know you've heard it and thats all you think about but you carry on at hit your shot instead of walking away from it.

I hate myself when I do this and it really is probably my most annoying scenario.

I have very little problem with slow play, if any at all.

Throwing away the good score does it for me , can pretty much stick the rest , but may main bugbear would have to be ignorance or inpoliteness. why people can be out participating in their pastime & have a snot or mood on them is beyond me.. costs nothing to be polite & courtious (however its spelled)

Re: Monthly poll time: infuriating scenarios + number of handicap roun

Youve actually just got me angry thinking about 3 putting from 6ft.

It leaves that sour angry burning sensation in you for ages, even if you go on to play well the rest of the round.

Aaaaargh

I plan to play in a competitive round every week at least once. :D

The biggest wind up for me, is seriously slow fourball, but even worse is when its a really slow 3 ball that holds you up. I now jog up and have a word with them, then break a rule by using my phone on the course to call the pro shop and get them to send a marshall over to speak to the offenders.

I think the problem at our place is the lack of Marshall's during comps.

I went in on Sunday and asked if won a prize for spotting a marshall. :D

I went for 5-10 (it might be more?) and
Throwing away a good score.

Both are depressing, but this season I shall be mostly marking "supplementary card" and pre-warning the pro when I play on a Sunday.

I will play plenty of qualifying rounds this year. Every weekend is at leastone comp and sometimes 2. If I am up there playing I may as well be in the comp. Also means nobody can accuse me of banditry when I have a good round in a bounce game.

As for the most annoying thing for me, it is definetly the rain off at the weekend. I get to play once a week, twice tops and I spend all week looking forward to that round, it really helps get the stresses of the week out of my system. To wake up and find that there is no hope of playing puts a real downer on my weekend.

The real annoying thing for me though is when I get up, the sun is shining, I am just about to get in the car and my playing partners pull out (normally hangover related) and it is too late to find a plan B.

I'm aiming for 50+ this season. There'll be at least 7 or 8 a month from here on in.

Blowing a good round is the pits for me. Stays with me too.

Lucky boy. Ours have qualifiers on Saturday and Wednesday. I play Sunday and sometimes Thursday....

Marvellous... :o
